At Michael Page, we are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Materials Planner and Procurement Lead to join our team. As a key member of our operations department, you will be responsible for leading material planning and direct material procurement to ensure optimal inventory levels.

Responsibilities

  • Lead material planning and purchasing of steel, including casting and other commodities, with a strategic focus on inventory management.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion.
  • Collaborate closely with the sourcing manager and other departments to ensure that inventory levels within the plant align with sales forecasts.
  • Leverage advanced negotiation skills to maintain strong supplier relationships and ensure timely deliveries.
  • Analyse inventory data, sales forecasts, and procurement needs using advanced Excel to create actionable plans for material flow and procurement optimisation.
  • Oversee and adjust material planning processes, ensuring all materials are delivered on time and in alignment with production needs.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure steel materials and other commodities are sourced and delivered on schedule.

Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role is a strategic and analytical thinker with experience in materials planning and procurement:

  • Proven experience in material planning, inventory management, and direct material procurement, with a strong understanding of steel casting and various types of steel.
  • Ability to quickly identify issues and develop effective solutions through problem-solving methodologies.
  • Expertise in managing MRP systems and ensuring inventory aligns with sales forecasts.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to collaborate effectively with suppliers to ensure timely material deliveries.
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis, material forecasting, and process optimization.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to negotiate and work across diverse teams.
  • A high level of adaptability and ability to transition smoothly into new systems or processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stress and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on clear communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze material requirements and inventory needs, ensuring materials are available on time and in alignment with production goals.
  • Leadership potential, capable of growing within the organization and taking on larger responsibilities over time.
