Job Title: Senior Counsel

The Senior Counsel is a senior professional position responsible for managing a team or department to accomplish results through the management of day-to-day legal activities in coordination with the Legal team. The overall objective of this role is to provide legal support, advice, and guidance across a broad range of practice areas.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage day-to-day activities of Legal team(s) within a country, product, or sub-unit.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide recommendations for pay increases, promotions, terminations, etc.
  • Provide legal advisory services to business managers and defend legal matters.
  • Supervise external counsel and resolve moderately complex issues.
  • Continuously stay informed of regulatory changes, new regulations, internal policy changes, and developments in the law.
  • Allocate and coordinate resources and conduct planning and budgeting activities, as needed.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
Qualifications:
  • 6-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Valid Bar license to practice law.
  • Banking/financial industry experience or experience from a big law firm.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the area of responsibility.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and practices.
  • Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication.
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.

This job description provides a high-level review of the types of work performed. Other job-related duties may be assigned as required.

This position is part of a new team (Corporate Reporting team) that will report into the Head of Legal of Corporate Governance and Commercial Banking and will be responsible for regulatory compliance with securities market regulations, as well as disclosures to stock exchanges and regulators.

Preferente experiencia en trato con despachos externos de EU.

Experiencia en IPOS, emisiones de valores, o experiencia en empresas que coticen en Bolsa.

Indispensable manejo de inglés avanzado (speaking, reading, writing).
