Job Summary

Canonical is seeking a highly skilled Software Developer to join our team as a Cross-Platform Engineer for Multipass, our workstation mini-cloud. As a key member of our distributed team, you will play a leadership role in designing, mentoring, reviewing, and coding to ensure the success of our project.

About the Role

  • Ensure Multipass is easy and intuitive to use, providing a seamless experience for developers.
  • Architect new features and design the user experience, focusing on simplicity and efficiency.
  • Write high-quality code to create new features and fix bugs, adhering to our engineering standards.
  • Review code and architecture as part of our engineering process, ensuring excellence in every aspect.
  • Collaborate proactively with our distributed team, fostering open communication and a culture of innovation.
  • Debug, track down, and fix issues encountered by our users, providing timely and effective solutions.
  • Foster the open source community and support customers when needed, demonstrating our commitment to community engagement.
  • Travel internationally for up to two weeks, twice a year, for company events, promoting team building and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Cross-platform development experience on macOS and/or Windows.
  • Expertise in modern C++ development, with a strong focus on code quality and testing.
  • Experience with software testing and test-driven development, ensuring our code meets the highest standards.
  • Extremely high personal standards for code quality, testing, and design, reflecting our commitment to excellence.
  • Knowledge of hypervisor technologies such as Hyper-V, VirtualBox, KVM, and QEMU, enabling us to push the boundaries of cloud computing.
  • Open source experience and involvement, demonstrating our passion for community-driven innovation.
  • Knowledge of CI systems, a plus, as we strive to integrate the latest technologies into our workflow.
  • Capacity to learn quickly about new systems and techniques, ensuring our team stays ahead of the curve.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, facilitating effective collaboration and communication.
  • Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or similar degree, reflecting our commitment to academic excellence.
