We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Country Counsel to join our team at Citigroup Inc. This is a critical role that requires a deep understanding of legal matters and the ability to lead a team of professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and support the Legal function, providing guidance and support to local businesses and Citi functions on all aspects of local and Citigroup Legal related matters.
- Ensure full compliance of all local Citigroup products and structures with local law, as in force, and where applicable with international standards.
- Manage the continuity and management of legal operations of Citigroup in the region, including local licenses and corporate governance.
- Advise the Chief Compliance Officer on business and franchise legal issues.
- Interface with regulators and ensure consistency of Citigroup policies with local legal requirements.
- Escalate all issues to designated Division Counsel that are of importance within the role.
- Participate in local management committees and manage the provision of external legal services.
- Liaise with compliance in the development, updating, and presentation of training materials related to local laws and regulations.
- Assist overseas colleagues engaged in projects and deals involving local laws and regulations.
- Manage and organize the handling of litigation cases in which Citigroup entities are involved as defendants or claimants.
- Manage the functioning of the Legal Department and draft and implement local legal policies and procedures.
- Draft, amend, and approve the list of external legal counsels used by Citigroup locally.
- 10+ years of experience in a similar role.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and relationship management skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Effective negotiation skills and ability to maintain effective relationships.
- Membership of local Bar/Lawyers Association.
- Education: Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred.
