Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Optical Communications team at Corning Inc. As a key member of our design engineering group, you will be responsible for developing and releasing successful engineering designs of enclosures for outdoor and indoor optical networks.

About the Role

This role involves conceptualizing mechanical design solutions for new development and improvement projects while keeping performance and cost targets in mind. You will lead the projects from a technical standpoint, ensuring that appropriate analytical, environmental, and functional tests are conducted to validate functionality and cost. Additionally, you will collaborate with project team members from multiple technical disciplines located in various domestic and global locations to translate design concepts into detailed designs that meet manufacturing standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize mechanical design solutions for new development and improvement projects.
  • Show deep understanding and technical evaluation behind proposed solutions.
  • Ensure appropriate analytical, environmental, and functional tests are done to validate functionality and cost.
  • Lead the projects from a technical standpoint, representing the design engineering perspective.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Major in Mechanical preferred (Electro-Mechanics, Mechatronics, or Optical considered).
  • 6-8 years of industry-related experience in Product, Design, New Product Introduction.
  • Experience designing injection molded and/or sheet metal parts highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and solve challenging technical problems.

We offer a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on your level of experience and qualifications.
