Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Worker to join our team at the Archdiocese of San Antonio. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of general maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the upkeep of our buildings, grounds, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete all maintenance work assigned and respond to after-hour building maintenance and emergencies.
  • Perform repairs or general maintenance, including minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, glazier, masonry, janitorial, and painting tasks.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking repair manuals and parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Use a variety of tools, including common hand and power tools, precision measuring instruments, and electrical and electronic testing devices.
  • Move and assist in transporting furniture and delivery of items to and from various facilities/sites.
  • Maintain security of campus buildings, including checking, opening, closing, and locking doors and windows, activating and deactivating building alarms, and responding to alarm calls after and during regular work hours.
  • Inspect buildings and other structures to detect malfunction and needed repair.
  • Reconfigure, install, position, and remount modular offices and space to accommodate user needs and maximize office space, using various hand, power, and specialty tools, dollies, and hand trucks.
  • Perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance and alterations of landscape areas, including mowing, weeding, trimming grass and shrubs, minor tree trimming, and hauling off, as well as irrigation maintenance.
  • Prepare, set up, and break down meeting room setups per work order request, including tables, chairs, and meeting equipment.
  • Maintain an inventory of facility maintenance items and order supplies as necessary.
  • Maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
  • Assist and attend to authorized general contractors.

Custodial Duties

  • Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming.
  • Check grounds for litter/garbage and unsafe conditions.
  • Identify and report building and ground issues in need of repair or attention to the Pastor.
  • Observe and adhere to all safe work and health policies and regulations.
  • Lift and carry supplies, equipment, deliveries, etc., weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Replace light bulbs as needed.
  • Replace filters on all facilities' air conditioners, furnaces, etc., as recommended.
  • Set up rooms in the manner and timeframe requested, including tables, chairs, microphones, chalkboards, etc.
  • Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities.
  • Keep buildings and property clean, attractive, well-maintained, and energy-efficient.
  • Stock and maintain a cost-effective inventory of custodial cleaning supplies, paper, toiletries, lighting, and maintenance/repair supplies.
  • Assist staff and volunteers with manual tasks as needed.
  • Assist with janitorial duties.
  • Floor refinishing (strip and wax).
  • Carpet cleaning.
  • Cleaning high-elevated windows.
  • Attend Buildings & Grounds meetings as necessary.
  • Clean hall after events.
  • Any other duties as required by the Pastor.

Requirements

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; and crouch/crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move 25-50 pounds.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, wet and/or hot, humid; high places; and work with various chemicals.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years' experience in building and equipment maintenance and repair or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of staff.
  • Bilingual - Fluent in English & Spanish required.
