The Country Representative serves as the principal representative of UN Women in Mexico, leading and managing the country office's portfolio to advance gender equality and women's empowerment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Program Planning and Development:
    • Develop and implement a strategic direction for the country office, aligning with regional and national priorities.
    • Lead the design, planning, and development of the Country Strategic Note, collaborating with government, civil society, donors, and UN system partners.
    • Provide substantive advice to senior management on regional strategy and program planning.
    • Manage results-based programming and ensure the quality of CO outputs.
  • Management of the Mexico Country Office:
    • Lead the office in delivering operational goals, overseeing implementation, and providing managerial direction.
    • Manage program work plans, monitor progress, and ensure compliance.
    • Prepare UN Women mandated country reports and manage audit review processes.
    • Provide guidance and leadership, ensuring effective workforce planning and timely recruitments.
  • Support to the Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team:
    • Serve as a member of the UN Country Team (UNCT) under the RC's strategic guidance and coordination.
    • Collaborate on UNCT programming and advocacy to integrate gender equality and women's empowerment issues into UN programming processes.
    • Partner with RC and UN system partners to strengthen interagency coherence and collaboration.
  • Representation and Advocacy:
    • Represent UN Women in intergovernmental forums, public information events, and key meetings.
    • Buid relationships and partnerships with high-level government officials, multilateral and bilateral agencies, and NGOs.
  • Strategic Partnerships and Resource Mobilization:
    • Lead the development of resource mobilization strategies and manage their implementation.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with government, partners, stakeholders, and donors to achieve active collaboration and cooperation.
  • Knowledge Management, Innovation, and Capacity Building:
    • Manage the development and implementation of the CO communication plan, based on UN Women's communication strategy.
    • Promote critical thinking, innovation, and best practices in the CO.
  • Safety, Security, and Well-being:
    • Maintain and update the CO security strategy, plan, and measures to ensure full compliance with UN security policies.
    • Serve as a member of the Security Management team (SMT) and undertake relevant security and crisis management training.

Requirements:

  • Education: Master's degree or equivalent in development-related disciplines, economics, or public policy.
  • Experience: At least 10 years of progressively responsible development experience combining strategic and managerial leadership.
  • Languages: Fluency in English and Spanish is required; working knowledge of Portuguese is desirable.
