Our Optical Communications segment has evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware, and equipment to a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is categorized into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network.

Role Overview

Serves as a key member of our technical operations team, working collaboratively with colleagues to resolve complex technical and engineering-related issues. Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions, and cost reduction projects. Drives the development and execution of plans to evaluate new technology or improvements in existing technology, resulting in superior products in terms of quality and/or cost.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day problem-solving support to production, development, and research operations, ensuring seamless technical assistance when needed.
  • Trains operators and trades personnel on new equipment and processes, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and skill development.
  • Utilizes rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed technical understanding for key process steps, driving process efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Functions as a team member or team leader on focused projects, contributing to project success through collaborative efforts and leadership.
  • Troubleshoots material, process, and equipment issues, identifies root causes, and implements corrective actions, ensuring optimal performance and minimizing downtime.
  • Implements and documents material, process, and/or equipment changes, maintaining accurate records and adhering to regulatory requirements.
  • Applies simple statistical tools and Designed Experiments (DOE) in process problem-solving and process improvement, leveraging data-driven insights to inform decision-making.
  • Ensures quality and repeatability of processes and products, upholding the highest standards of excellence and consistency.
  • Supports new product introductions through equipment installation, process certification, documentation, and training, ensuring a smooth transition into production.
  • Ensures safety of operators and equipment, complying with safety and environmental regulations, and promoting a culture of safety awareness.
  • Develops SME knowledge of material, process, and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing or engineering, staying current with industry developments and best practices.
  • Executes cost reduction and improvement (DMAIC) projects aligned with business objectives, driving revenue growth and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent technical experience/experience.
  • Yellow Belt Training.
  • Track record of delivering results.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in a technical field.
  • Project team membership.

Desired Qualifications

  • Summer Intern experience/progressive experience within the field of engineering.
  • Green Belt Certification.
  • Project Team Leadership.
  • Shift supervisory experience.
