Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer is a critical role within the plant operations team at Columbus Mckinnon Corporation. This position is responsible for leading and supporting plantwide continuous improvement activities, quality, and problem-solving processes. The successful candidate will ensure that equipment and tooling are developed and maintained per engineering and customer specifications. Additionally, this role will involve creating and updating routings through time studies to support the plant master production schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and promote safety throughout the facility.
- Program, edit, and validate CNC lathes and mills.
- Utilize MRP software (AS/400) to create and maintain routings through time studies to support the production schedule.
- Develop and improve tooling, equipment, and fixturing with the Manufacturing Technician.
- Act as a technical resource for manufacturing departments.
- Support company capital plans through the design and development of work cells, machines, fixtures, and tooling.
- Review production orders or schedules to plan department operations.
- Resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
- Inspect machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
- Coordinate daily activities involved in the operation of the Manufacturing Engineering Department.
- Implement Work Cells, One Piece Flow Manufacturing, Lean Manufacturing Principles, and SMED.
- Maintain plant layout.
- Collaborate with maintenance departments to address safety-related items.
- Prepare capital appropriations.
- Provide tooling quotes for new parts or products and changes to existing parts or products.
- Compile, store, and retrieve production data.
- Perform cost analysis to inform decision-making.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing field preferred.
- Associate degree and 3+ years experience or in lieu of formal education, 7+ years experience in manufacturing engineering field considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CNC machining, programming, and fixture design experience.
- Experience with 5-axis and automation.
- Working knowledge of ERP and MRP software (AS/400 experience preferred).
- Experience with non-destructive inspection techniques.
- Knowledge of basic statistics.
- Familiar with Root Cause and Preventive Action methods.
- Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience.
