Job Title: Optics Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Optics Engineer to join our team at Safran Electronics & Defense. The successful candidate will utilize optics principles to design and build light-emitting devices, ensuring that light sources align with lenses to produce light emission, such as from a laser.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Determine how to produce and control light in high-tech devices
  2. Apply knowledge of photometrics, including chromaticity, luminance, and radiance/night vision
  3. Utilize knowledge of optical materials, including color filters, diffusers, and NVIS filters
  4. Develop prototypes of optical systems
  5. Create detailed designs of optic, laser, or photonic technology
  6. Oversee the manufacturing team to ensure adherence to design principles
  7. Test the final product with photometric test equipment, including photometers and radiometers
  8. Diagnose product defects or errors
  9. Order necessary supplies and resources for projects
  10. Write detailed instructions for equipment use
  11. Collaborate with other engineers to complete projects efficiently
  12. Create computer models of designs for client approval
  13. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements
  14. Familiarize yourself with LED, incandescent lighting, and aircraft dimming controls
  15. Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  1. Four-year bachelor's degree in physics, electrical engineering, or a related field
  2. 5 or more years of specialized experience in photometrics or optics, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  3. Language proficiency in Spanish and English is required

Competencies:

  1. Strong understanding of physics
  2. Proficient in mathematics
  3. Problem-solving skills
  4. Manual dexterity
  5. Familiarity with MIL standards, including MIL-PRF-25050, MIL-PRF-7788, and MIL-STD-3009
  6. Ability to use scientific equipment, such as spectrometers and watt meters

Location:

This position is located in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. Occasional travel may be requested.
