Job Description

As a Construction Project Manager with Amazon Web Services Mexico S. de R.L. de C.V. - C68, you will play a key role in the development and implementation of our Mexico facility network infrastructure. This includes analyzing and evaluating different facility scenarios and build-out designs, as well as supporting the standardization of technical and facility-related processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction engineering, planning, and design for Fulfillment Centers, AMZL (Delivery Stations) and ATS (Sort Centers), and other new expansion and retrofit projects
  • Responsible for project support on new fulfillment network buildings, AMZL, ATS, and additional capacity requirements within existing Mexico FCs, AMZL, and ATS
  • Ensure all Safety practices as required by Amazon and by code are followed by General Contractors and Sub-contractors
  • Lead construction scope review and development with internal operational customers, and facilitate engineering and design efforts on new and remodel projects
  • Support the development of specifications, technical analysis to fully define the design requirements, equipment, and services required on capacity expansion and remodel projects
  • Oversight of ground-up shell, TI (Tenant Improvements), and engineering deployment for new facilities within the network
  • Technical direction concerning engineering design, building design, layouts, build details, schedules, and materials in accordance with Amazon’s design criteria
  • Assess facilities, develop and document procedures to audit the facility, provide evaluations and analysis, and recommend solutions related to infrastructure, safety, and security problems involving facilities and people
  • Support contract negotiation with General Contractors and trade contractors and present formal documentation for approval when required
  • Ensure that contracts are fit for purpose, cost-effective, and incorporate appropriate Service Level Agreements
  • Overall site management, coordination, planning, specification of business proposals, and coordination of subcontractors
  • Facilitate and collaborate with others on due diligence evaluation of new opportunities
  • Facilitate and team with internal stakeholders regarding engineering buildouts, IT readiness, and turnover to operational groups
  • Partner with teams tasked with transition of base building management and oversight of all turnover documentation
  • Coach and guide all project teams (developers, design engineers, general contractors, sub-contractors, internal stakeholders) throughout the full project lifecycle
  • Ensure that contracted resources deliver work to meet duration and quality targets, addressing and ensuring the correction of under-performance issues
  • Audit contractors to check that the skills and competences of contract labor are appropriate to need and they are fit to undertake the work on which they will be deployed
  • Inform contractors of projected changes in resource or work demand so that they can take appropriate action
  • Establish and operate the information systems necessary for effective scheduling and recording of contract work
  • Support contractors' work and help them to achieve higher performance levels
  • Oversight of multiple projects in various locations simultaneously
  • Review of designs for conformance to current Mexico design criteria, country, and local regulations
  • Critical review of current design standards to identify value engineering and design enhancement opportunities to be considered by internal engineering and schematic design partners
  • Comprehensive budget tracking, forecasting, reporting, and management of assigned expansion, remodel, and new-build projects
  • Receipt, review, and analysis of all proposed cost and time change requests as presented by external project teams
  • Review and guide internally requested changes for validity, impact, and ensure timely and cost-sensitive incorporation once approved
  • Collaboration and/or assistance in negotiations with appropriate jurisdiction entities as required
  • Leadership and/or participation in community engagement activities
  • Leadership and/or participation in sustainability initiatives and/or projects
  • Support development of a comprehensive equipment commissioning process
  • Positive, clear, concise, and transparent cross-team communication for all aspects of project delivery

Quality, Commissioning, and Turnover Documentation

  • Responsibility for identification and application of project quality management systems during the planning and execution of Commissioning and Turnover project phases, adapting them to the specific needs and any unique ECCF country and risks
  • Coordination of preparation of detailed area commissioning plans for regions, liaison with internal stakeholders, and other regions such as EU and NA
  • Verification of KPIs during entire project activity. Provision of periodic reviews for regional portfolio of projects commissioning and turnover status
  • Accountability for deployment of electronic turnover database and steward document review following established turnover processes
  • Accountability for liaison with Construction Managers drive general contractor progress to completion of construction and commissioning work fronts, including field construction, commissioning documentation, and deficiencies
  • Liaison with RME (Reliability and Maintenance Engineering) and facility Operations to define and implement the project turnover philosophy
  • Organization and leadership of final walkdowns of systems, responsible for Punch list creation and categorization, and verification of completion of punch items where necessary (risk-based)
  • Inspection and assurance that all construction activities are completed prior to taking up the system for commissioning and setup of safety procedures for the same
  • Continuous monitoring to identify and communicate to Construction team on any priority areas of work to accomplish smooth commissioning activities
  • Responsibility along with Construction Manager for overall Commissioning team and to oversee recruitment, mobilization, training, supervision, and de-mobilization of personnel
  • Responsibility to ensure that all documentation relevant to the Construction and Commissioning phase is received by the Project, including but not limited to O&M manuals, Training materials, Engineering databases for O&M systems upload, spares lists, and spares

A Day in the Life

  • Interaction with Developers and/or General Contractors that are currently executing projects
  • Participation in program calls with internal customers and stakeholders to provide updates on active projects
  • Preparation of weekly status reports
  • Site walks to assess safety practices and physical progress

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable Engineering field or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience as an Engineer, Construction, Design, or other Construction-related disciplines
  • Experience operating within at least two disciplines within the construction industry, Contracting, Owner's Representation, Architecture, Design, and Engineering; Commercial Development, Analysis, and Control of Construction Costs or similar
  • Project Management experience from due diligence and design phase through implementation and operation
  • Understanding of GMP, EPC, EPCM
  • Fluency in Spanish and English

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Engineering or Construction Management
  • Certification in Commissioning or Quality
  • Ability to effectively communicate Amazon requirements to various audiences (e.g., senior management, peers, public officials, vendors, etc.)
  • Experience inclusive of Facilities Management, Building Maintenance, or similar
  • Fluency in Portuguese

Salary: The estimated salary for this position is $120,000 per year.
