Prison Reform and International Cooperation Specialist

SGI Global, LLC seeks an experienced Corrections Senior Advisor to support the Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs in Mexico City.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Located in Mexico City, this position requires occasional travel to other locations in Mexico, the United States, and internationally.
  • The ideal candidate will provide technical assistance to support the development and implementation of a Prison Accreditation Program in Mexico, working closely with the Government of Mexico and the U.S. Foreign Assistance Program.
  • This role involves conducting diagnostic visits to federal and state correctional facilities, assessing operations and conditions, and providing detailed reports on each prison visited.
  • The successful candidate will offer advice, training, and mentoring to Mexican corrections partners, focusing on best practices in prison management and preparing facilities for accreditation audits.
  • Attendance at international conferences relevant to INL's Corrections Program is also required.
  • This specialist will participate in outreach activities to increase awareness of INL programs and policies among domestic and international law enforcement communities.
Qualifications:
  • A U.S. citizen with proficiency in Spanish (FSI level 3/3) and English (FSI level 4/4).
  • An Associate's degree in a related field or ten years of experience in the justice sector, law enforcement, or public administration.
  • Five years of experience as a corrections professional, including managerial and supervisory roles, with expertise in international corrections issues.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a Department of State MRPT security clearance.
  • Experience drafting reports, developing training programs, and working with senior officials.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
