About the Role
The Electrical Product Development Engineer will be part of the Product Operations team, responsible for New Product Introduction (NPI) and Product Life Cycle Management from a manufacturing and supply chain perspective. This role will collaborate with design engineering teams early in the product development phase and be responsible for all NPI product launch and support until the end of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform portions of electrical engineering activities, requiring general knowledge and developing business experience.
- Assist with product and sustaining engineering-related tasks, and lead electrical engineering projects with limited resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity.
- Support value engineering initiatives within the function, including component selection, process efficiency, and design changes.
- Assist with technical lifecycle management through defect reduction team participation and new component qualification.
- Support cost avoidance projects and sustain cost reduction activities.
- Perform design lab experiments, analyze data, and make decisions within limited parameters under regular supervision.
- Analyze and release product documentation.
- Participate in design for manufacturing, test, and reliability (DFM, DFT, DFR) reviews to reduce assembly and test time and increase overall product quality.
Requirements
- Apply basic understanding of Cisco's business objectives and develop understanding of Cisco's products, services, and customers.
- Contribute to the solution of straightforward business problems regarding operations, products, services, or customers.
- Analyze information, ask questions, and check for understanding using standard procedures within the job family to support root cause analysis for yield and quality-related issues.
- Common differentiators that signal readiness to move to the next level may include time in role (12+ months), outstanding or better performance, ability to train others in the role, or increasing job responsibilities as outlined in a functional job matrix.
- Requires some experience in electrical engineering while working to acquire higher-level knowledge and skills.
- Comfortable with technology, tools, and processes that support work conducted by the job family, such as DFx, schematic, CAD, and CAE.
