About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Distinguished Engineer to join our team at Capital One. As a key member of our engineering community, you will be responsible for driving innovation and technical excellence across our organization.

As a Distinguished Engineer, you will be a trusted advisor and technical leader, providing guidance and expertise to our teams on cloud computing, software engineering, and technical architecture. You will be responsible for articulating and evangelizing a bold technical vision for your domain, decomposing complex problems into practical and operational solutions, and ensuring the quality of technical design and implementation.

You will also serve as an authoritative expert on non-functional system characteristics, such as performance, scalability, and operability, and continue learning and injecting advanced technical knowledge into our community. Additionally, you will handle multiple projects simultaneously, balancing your time to maximize impact, and act as a role model and mentor within the tech community, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements
  • Intermediate-Advanced English fluency
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 7 years of experience in Software engineering and solution architecture
  • At least 7 years experience in Mobile technology and frameworks (iOS or Android)
  • At least 7 years of experience in Cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in Software engineering and solution architecture
  • At least 10 years of professional experience coding in commonly used languages like Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift, etc.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment and production support
  • At least 3 years of experience with public or private cloud technologies
  • 10+ years of experience with Networking (BGP, Wi-Fi, SD-WAN, Cloud Networking and Data Center Networking)
  • 5+ years of experience in building distributed systems and highly available services using cloud computing services (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • AWS Certifications
