Job Summary

California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers in the Department of World Languages and Cultures. The positions are available as determined by need and funding in the Fall, Winter, and/or Spring Quarters during the academic year.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one or more of the following language courses: Elementary or intermediate French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin [in Traditional Character Form], and/or Spanish.
  • Teach advanced-level courses in Spanish, or subtopic classes (e.g., Latin America, Mexico, China, Italy) for the course Humanities in World Cultures: a writing-intensive, upper-division General Education class taught in English.

Requirements

  • M.A. degree in language, literature, and/or culture or in second language acquisition.
  • Ph.D. in an appropriate field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated college teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in a higher education setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

Special Conditions

  • All CSU employees are designated "mandated reporters" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
