Senior Intellectual Property Manager

We are seeking a seasoned legal professional with exceptional attention to detail and expertise in intellectual property law to join our team as a Legal Counsel. This role will be based at our headquarters in Texcoco, Mexico.
The successful candidate will have:
- Contract Management: Oversee the entire lifecycle of grants, research collaborations, consultancy agreements, and other contracts entered into by CIMMYT with its partners and service providers globally.
- Intellectual Property Compliance: Ensure adherence to CIMMYT's intellectual property policies and CGIAR Intellectual Asset Principles, reviewing IP terms in agreements and preparing related reports.
- Strategic Advice: Propose effective legal strategies, policies, and procedures for disseminating and deploying CIMMYT technologies.
- IP Asset Management: Support the implementation of comprehensive intellectual asset management strategies, ensuring compliance and efficient execution of technology transfer methodologies.
- Licensing Agreements: Review and negotiate research and development agreements, technology license agreements, material transfer agreements, and oversee research ethics.
- Intellectual Property Protection: Prepare and manage registrations for intellectual property protection, including filing applications and renewals for trademarks, copyrights, PBR, and patents.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Law; Master's degree or specialization in Intellectual Property or Technology Transfer preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in intellectual property law within a company, research organization, or law firm, ideally in technology transfer, licensing, and/or patent law.
- Language Skills: Advanced English level (C2).
- Additional Requirements: Experience or knowledge in private and/or public sector industries related to agricultural R&D, biotechnology, genetic resources, or big data is an advantage. Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
Salary Estimate: $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include a year-end bonus (40 days), vacation premium (56%), life and medical insurance, supermarket coupons, savings fund, social Mexican benefits (IMSS, SAR/Infonavit), and opportunities for continuous professional development.
