About the Role
As a Process Assembly Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing full and semi-automated assembly processes for new product introductions. You will work closely with the Design function to guide the Design for Assembly (DFA) process and inform project teams about the limits and advantages of different assembly technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and validate product design alternatives to create optimum process designs, applying knowledge of product design, assembly, fixturing, and materials.
- Create detailed capacity analysis studies using various assembly methods and techniques, comparing manual, semi-auto, and fully automated solutions.
- Define the material flow and handling used to supply the process, plan and establish the sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products, and promote efficient utilization of resources.
- Define the industrial technologies needed to assemble new products, utilizing FMEA, VSM, and Auto vs Manual studies, and enlighten projects on the necessary levels of investment.
- Contribute to target cost by providing product assembly time using systemic methods such as MTM analysis.
- Write specification and qualification plans for means, tools, equipment, and production lines to produce the product.
- Manage the realization of production means at suppliers, investing in technical choices with manufacturing feasibility studies, cost of quality analysis, and cross-functional peer reviews.
- Drive the qualification of means at supplier and internal operation sites, and participate in the ramp-up of production means to operations sites by leading training, industrial file definition, and assistance with material setup and flow.
Requirements
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics. You should have 3-5+ years of experience in manufacturing industry directly supporting assembly operations, with a strong background in Methods, Maintenance, or Factory Production Support, particularly in high-volume or specialized machine realization and development.
Technical Requirements
- Creo (ProE) or Solidworks.
- Simulation or production modeling tools (Lanner Witness, Rockwell Arena, or equivalent).
- Basic understanding of PLC programming.
- Basic understanding of MES/MIS systems.
- Familiarity with vision systems (Cognex, Keyence).
- Familiarity with motion controllers and actuators (IAI, Yasakawa).
- Experience with electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Travel
Travel required up to 30% (domestic and international based on project assignment).
Critical Behaviors
- Able to work within a multidisciplinary and multicultural project team, ensuring the link with operations facilities.
- Demonstrate ability to perform root cause analysis and develop action plans to strategically eliminate barriers.
- Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal).
- Proven ability to influence and convince through negotiation.
