About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Director to join our team at Canonical. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for leading our engineering efforts and driving the development of our products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a Distributed Team: Manage a team of engineers and technical leads to achieve our product goals.
  • Develop and Implement Engineering Roadmaps: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement engineering roadmaps that align with our business objectives.
  • Conduct Code Reviews and Architectural Leadership: Conduct regular code reviews and provide architectural leadership to ensure the quality and performance of our products.
  • Mentor and Grow Direct Reports: Mentor and grow your direct reports to help them achieve their professional goals.
  • Represent Canonical at Industry Events: Represent Canonical at industry events and conferences to promote our products and services.
Requirements
  • Proven Track Record of Professional Experience: A proven track record of professional experience in software delivery, preferably with a track record in open source.
  • Professional Python Development Experience: Professional Python development experience, preferably with a track record in open source.
  • Understanding of Machine Learning Space: A proven understanding of the machine learning space, its challenges, and opportunities to improve.
  • Experience Designing and Implementing MLOps Solutions: Experience designing and implementing MLOps solutions.
  • Exceptional Academic Track Record: An exceptional academic track record from both high school and preferably university.
Additional Skills
  • Hands-on Experience with Machine Learning Libraries or Tools: Hands-on experience with machine learning libraries or tools.
  • Proven Track Record of Building Highly Automated Machine Learning Solutions: A proven track record of building highly automated machine learning solutions for the cloud.
  • Experience with Container Technologies: Experience with container technologies (Docker, LXD, Kubernetes, etc.).
  • Experience with Public Clouds: Experience with public clouds (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Experience in the Linux and Open-Source Software World: Experience in the Linux and open-source software world.
  • Working Knowledge of Cloud Computing: Working knowledge of cloud computing.
  • Passionate about Software Quality and Testing: Passionate about software quality and testing.
  • Experience Working on a Distributed Team: Experience working on a distributed team on an open-source project.
