Senior Legal Counsel: Experienced Lawyer for ASEAN Markets

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced lawyer to provide legal support to our business units and functions in ASEAN Countries. This role is ideal for a candidate who has a proven track record of providing expert legal advice and guidance to businesses operating in multiple countries.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing strong hands-on experience and working relationships with business partners at all levels of the AkzoNobel Group;
  • Litigation/Claims/Government Investigation: Initiating, defending and settling claims, demands and litigation throughout ASEAN; monitoring compliance with the claims policy and procedures and progress of court, employment tribunal, arbitration proceedings, and other regulatory investigation in order to limit AkzoNobel's exposure to legitimate and enforceable claims;
  • Employment Issues: Advising management on laws affecting hiring, dismissal, redundancy, disciplinary actions, compensation, benefits and training of AkzoNobel staff; working with HR to draft and/or review human resources policies and manuals;
  • Contract Review and Negotiation: Monitoring and improving process for contract development and maintenance; balancing and minimizing risks, gaining greater commercial benefits and ensuring company is protected legally;
  • Brief overview of IP knowledge;
  • Compliance awareness;
  • Training: Conducting training of employees in ASEAN from legal perspective;
  • Others related to legal matters in AkzoNobel Group.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A qualified law degree from a recognized university;
  • At least 7 years of post-qualification experience in a reputable law firm or in-house company;
  • Fluent English language skills (any additional language is not mandatory, but is a plus);
  • Prior exposure/experiences to commercial and corporate legal matters, particularly transactional, contract drafting and advisory experience, is preferred;
  • Able to act autonomously when appropriate and know when to escalate matters;
  • Able to handle legal matters for more than 1 country;
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Learning skills (such as learning local laws and regulation).

The salary range for this position is estimated to be between $80,000 and $120,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
