High School Mathematics Teacher

Position Summary

The High School Mathematics Teacher at ASFG is responsible for cultivating an intellectually rigorous and supportive learning environment for students in grades 9 and 10. This role emphasizes preparing students for advanced study through the Integrated Math curriculum and Common Core State Standards. The teacher will guide students in developing mathematical reasoning, problem-solving strategies, and confidence in applying mathematics to real-world contexts.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of high school mathematics teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Common Core-aligned High School math curriculum (Integrated Math sequence or equivalent).

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Implementation & Instruction

  • Design and deliver lessons aligned with Integrated Math II and III, focusing on algebra, geometry, trigonometry, quadratic and polynomial functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, statistics, and probability.
  • Connect mathematical concepts to real-world applications to foster engagement and relevance.
  • Incorporate differentiated instruction and support diverse learners.

Skill Development

  • Build student proficiency in reasoning, proof, and problem-solving through multiple representations (graphical, symbolic, numerical, verbal).
  • Develop students' ability to construct mathematical arguments, justify solutions, and interpret quantitative data.
  • Encourage persistence, curiosity, and confidence in approaching challenging mathematics.

Assessment & Feedback

  • Use a range of formative and summative assessments (quizzes, projects, unit exams, performance tasks) to measure understanding and guide instruction.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to promote growth and reflection.
  • Prepare students for advanced coursework such as AP Precalculus, AP Statistics, or AP Calculus.

Technology Integration

  • Teach students with a limited reliance on calculators and AP, but also on the appropriate when and how usage of these tools.
  • Feel comfortable with the use of digital platforms for instructional delivery and feedback when appropriate.
  • Integrate technology tools to analyze data, model relationships, and visualize mathematical concepts.

Classroom Environment

  • Create an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative classroom culture.
  • Foster a growth mindset, encouraging students to view mistakes as opportunities for learning.

Professional Growth & Collaboration

  • Participate in ongoing professional development, including Desmos Amplify  training, math education workshops, and departmental collaboration.
  • Be willing to adapt teaching practices to ASFG ongoing curriculum and teaching pedagogy alignment efforts.
  • Contribute to cross-disciplinary initiatives and the continuous improvement of the ASFG learning community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching the Integrated Math I, II, and III pathway as opposed to the traditional Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II pathway.
  • Experience teaching with blended learning platforms such as Carnegie Learning, Desmos Amplify, and Illustrative Math, among others.
    8th Grade Math Integrated.
  • Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and differentiated instruction.
  • Prior international teaching experience in a multicultural setting.
  • Ability to teach other honors or advanced levels (e.g., Integrated Math III Honors, AP Statistics, AP Calculus).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Valid and current teaching certification
  • Minimum of 2 years high school teaching experience

Teaching & Learning

  • Design engaging, inquiry-based, and mastery-focused learning experiences
  • Use diverse instructional strategies, including literacy development, critical and creative thinking routines, non-linguistic representation, research & inquiry, and collaborative learning
  • Provide timely, actionable feedback to support student growth
  • Maintain accurate assessment practices aligned with ASFG expectations

Student Relationships & SEL

  • Build a caring, equitable, and emotionally safe classroom community
  • Teach students to understand and manage emotions, demonstrate empathy, and develop healthy relationships
  • Support belonging by honoring identity, voice, and diverse perspectives
  • Actively monitor student progress and invite students to office hours when support is needed

Professional Expectations

  • Be present on campus from 7:45 a.m.–2:45 p.m. (Wednesdays until 4:00 p.m.)
  • Hold at least 1 hour/week of office hours before or after school
  • Respond to parent emails within 48 hours
  • Participate in department meetings, Wednesday PD sessions, and all-school training
  • Use Google Classroom consistently for assignments, communication, and feedback
  • Uphold shared classroom expectations and schoolwide norms

Community Engagement

  • Support and participate in major school events such as International Family Day, ArtFest, the Winter Giving Celebration, and high school graduation
  • Contribute positively to campus culture through collaboration, supervision, and community-focused initiatives
