Role:
The Engineer NDT position is structured as a mid-level engineering role within the facility's nondestructive testing (NDT) program. It serves as a developmental assignment with the intention of preparing the incumbent to eventually assume the position of Facility NDT Coordinator. The individual in this role provides essential support for the facility's NDT operations and is tasked with taking on the coordinator's responsibilities during periods of absence.
Through active involvement in NDT activities, the Engineer NDT is expected to progressively enhance their technical knowledge and leadership skills. This development is aligned with the requirements and objectives of the facility's NDT program, ensuring continuity and sustained excellence in NDT processes and standards.
What the candidate will do:
- Assist in overseeing the facility's NDT program, including test procedures, equipment verification, and technique qualification.
- Development and management of testing procedures
- Support operator training and ensure accurate maintenance of training documentation.
- Participate in the selection, evaluation, and procurement of NDT equipment and supplier capabilities.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure adherence to applicable NDT standards.
- Contribute to development initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
- Stay current with advancements in NDT methods and technologies.
- Provide technical support in interpreting and evaluating NDT results in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
- Assist with NDT program responsibilities as delegated by the Regional NDT Coordinator.
Degree Requirement:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Metallurgy, or Materials Science from an accredited institution.
- Language: Fluid English
Required skills:
Accuracy & Attention to Detail:
- Ability to propose solutions effectively through pilot tests or comparative evaluations
- Ability to review, interpret, and validate nondestructive testing results with high accuracy, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and technical specifications
- Ability to ensure proper application of procedures, techniques, and equipment calibrations, systematically verifying all critical parameters to maintain the integrity and reliability of inspection processes
Analytical Thinking:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Perform needs analysis and contribute ideas for NDT inspection process improvements.
- Evaluate new equipment/technology in Non-destructive testing, inspection systems, and communicate findings.
Technical/Professional Knowledge:
- Support the Regional NDT Coordinator in managing the NDT program.
- Ability to adhere to regulatory processes, practices, and specifications for nondestructive testing methods such as SNT‑TC‑1A, ISO 9712
- Ability to research, analyze, and implement new Nondestructive Testing techniques to help optimize quality at the lowest possible cost.
Effective Communications:
- Ability to communicate key quality indicators and metrics relevant to Nondestructive Testing.
- Effective communication skills with team members, customers, and suppliers
- Ability to communicate effectively in crisis environments with all levels of the manufacturing chain, from operators to management.
The best candidates will also have:
- Demonstrated proficiency in Nondestructive Testing (NDT) methods and in technical or engineering disciplines related to welding processes
- Formal training, qualification, or certification in NDT Level I or II for applicable methods (UT, PA, VT, MT, PT)
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and specifications, as well as to communicate effectively with Caterpillar personnel and suppliers
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Additional information:
- This position will be based at the Acuna Facility in Coahuila, Mexico.
- The work schedule is Monday through Friday, and the role is 100% on-site.
- Availability is required based on the support needs of the production lines
- Domestic and international travel may be required up to 15% of the time
- A valid passport and U.S. visa are required
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position
