The Search and AI Platform is Elsevier's agentic data platform powering products such as Scopus, ScienceDirect, and our next-generation LLM-powered research systems. About The Role
We are seeking an
innovative, passionate Senior Software Engineer I
to join our new AI Content team. You will help build and maintain scalable pipelines to ingest content into a centralized storage system, develop a scalable content enrichment and retrieval system, and create pipelines to load content search indexes. These systems are in early-stage implementation, and this team has the remit to ingest massive amounts of content to support AI-powered products across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and build robust and scalable pipelines, following clean code and best-practice software engineering principles.
• Work with technologies including Python (FastAPI), Java (Spring Boot), Spark, Airflow, Snowflake, Iceberg, Kafka, and RDBMS.
• Build cloud infrastructure in AWS to host and monitor services, automating common tasks mercilessly.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery and high-quality solutions.
• Conduct code reviews and maintain high standards for software quality.
• Additionally, experience with large-scale content management systems and big data is highly valued.

Requirements

• +7 years of experience in software engineering.
• Strong commercial experience delivering server-side applications.
• Excellent programming skills in Java and Python.
• Advocate of best practices for rapid development of quality software, including clean code, architectural design patterns, and CI/CD.
• Comfortable learning new technologies, languages, and tools on the job to keep pace with a rapidly evolving ecosystem.
• Inclusive, positive, and collaborative mindset with a desire to deliver real business value.
• Ability to handle ambiguity, refine and execute higher-level tasks, and perform detailed code reviews.
