Overview

We are looking for an experienced Progress 4GL Programmer to join our software development team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing, maintaining, and optimizing business applications using Progress OpenEdge / Progress 4GL. This role involves working closely with analysts, developers, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, high-performance software solutions that support critical business operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using Progress 4GL / OpenEdge ABL.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and program logic.
• Enhance, debug, and optimize existing Progress-based systems for performance and stability.
• Develop and maintain database structures, triggers, and stored procedures in Progress RDBMS.
• Integrate Progress applications with external systems using APIs, web services, or other interfaces.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (QA, business analysts, and project managers) to ensure timely and accurate delivery of projects.
• Create and maintain documentation for system design, code, and deployment processes.
• Participate in software testing, deployment, and post-implementation support.
• Contribute to modernization initiatives, such as migrating legacy systems to newer OpenEdge environments or integrating front-end technologies (e.g., Angular, React).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of professional experience programming in Progress 4GL / OpenEdge ABL.
• Solid understanding of Progress RDBMS, including schema design and performance tuning.
• Experience with OpenEdge Studio, AppServer, and Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge (PDSOE).
• Familiarity with procedural and object-oriented ABL.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative development team.
• Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken).

Preferred Skills

• Experience integrating Progress applications with web-based front ends (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Angular, or REST APIs).
• Knowledge of OpenEdge 11+ environments, WebSpeed, and Progress Application Server (PASOE).
• Familiarity with version control tools (Git, SVN).
• Exposure to Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
• Understanding of business processes in ERP, CRM, or inventory management systems.
