Job Summary:
The ideal candidate will play a critical role in developing, qualifying, and optimizing welding processes (TIG and Plasma) to ensure the production of high-quality aerospace components. This position requires strong expertise in aerospace welding, industry specifications, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and improve TIG and plasma welding processes to meet production, quality, and cost objectives.
- Prepare and maintain WPS, PQRs, and welder qualifications per aerospace standards.
- Provide hands-on technical support to welders, including troubleshooting and defect analysis.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to ensure weldability and specification adherence.
- Conduct root cause analysis for weld-related issues and implement corrective actions.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase weld quality and reduce scrap.
- Apply lean manufacturing and Kaizen methodologies.
- Ensure compliance with AS9100, AWS D17.1, and NADCAP Welding.
- Support audits related to welding processes and special processes.
- Participate in new product introduction and weld process development.
- Evaluate and recommend welding equipment and new technologies.
- Develop and maintain work instructions, weld maps, traveler documentation, and control plans.
- Train welders on best practices and compliance requirements.
Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in aerospace welding or special processes.
- Proficiency in TIG (GTAW) and Plasma (PAW) welding of high-temperature alloys.
- Knowledge of AWS D17.1, NADCAP welding requirements, and aerospace standards.
- Experience with metallurgy, heat-affected zones, and distortion control.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in CAD tools and familiarity with GD&T.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
