About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented
Test Data Analyst
to join our Data Warehouse team. Unlike traditional QA roles that focus on front-end applications, this position is strictly focused on
backend data validation
. You will act as the gatekeeper for customer financial data layer, ensuring that data transforming from our Line of Business systems (Claims, Operations) into our Data Warehouse and downstream SAP ERP modules is accurate, compliant, and complete.
Key Responsibilities
- ETL Validation:
Execute complex test strategies to verify data movement from source systems (XML, Flat Files, JSON) to the target Data Warehouse. - Data Transformation Testing:
Verify that complex business rules, financial aggregations, "bucketing" logic, and compliance masking are applied correctly during data loads. - Advanced SQL Scripting:
Write and execute advanced SQL queries (complex Joins, Aggregations, Sub-queries) to validate data integrity, identify duplicates, and reconcile record counts. - Load Testing:
Validate different load types, specifically distinguishing between
Initial (Historical) Loads
and
Incremental (Delta) Loads
. - Downstream Verification:
Ensure data integrity as it feeds into SAP modules (FICO, FSTD, FSRI) and Business Objects dashboards. - Root Cause Analysis:
Investigate data discrepancies reported by Finance, Actuarial, and Accounting stakeholders; trace issues back to specific ETL logic or source defects. - Documentation:
Maintain comprehensive test evidence for audit compliance and sign-off.
Required Qualifications
- Experience:
5+ years in Quality Assurance with a specific focus on
Data Warehousing, ETL, or Backend Testing
. - Technical Skills:
- Expert-level SQL:
Ability to write complex queries from scratch without relying on GUI tools. - ETL Concepts:
Strong understanding of data mapping, transformation logic, and data lake/warehouse architectures. - Domain Knowledge:
Experience with
Insurance (P&C)
, Claims data, or financial reporting is highly preferred. - Tools:
Experience with defect tracking (JIRA) and database management tools (Toad, SQL Developer, DBeaver).
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- Experience with
SAP ERP
data structures. - Knowledge of Python or Shell scripting for automating data validation checks.
- Experience with Business Objects (BOE) for report validation.
Critical Success Factors
- Data-First Mindset:
You understand that "passing the test" means the data is financially accurate, not just that the system didn't crash. - Detail Oriented:
You can spot a 0.01% variance in financial totals and understand why it matters. - No UI Dependency:
You are comfortable working entirely in a database environment without a user interface.
