The Position
Sproule ERCE is seeking a Data Engineer to join our Mexico City team on a full-time basis. The Data Engineer will be integral to maintaining, advancing, and creating automation, workflows, and data solutions across multiple business units. The role includes supporting existing automation while working with business stakeholders and development teams to evolve processes and tools in support of company growth.
This position offers opportunities for professional growth by applying technical expertise daily in an AGILE environment to assess, review, and develop new data solutions. The successful candidate will collaborate within the Systems and Information Technology (SIT) department, which includes global team members focused on operational excellence.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong development capabilities, teamwork, and a passion for continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities
The Data Engineer will undertake core data engineering functions, including:
- Designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and architectures.
- Writing optimized, clean, and maintainable code to handle data ingestion, transformation, and integration.
- Managing data workflows and automations to ensure reliable and timely data availability.
- Integrating diverse data sources, including third-party and internal systems, ensuring data quality and consistency.
- Collaborating with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to support data needs.
- Monitoring data systems to ensure performance, security, and compliance.
- Troubleshooting data-related issues and deploying solutions to improve system robustness.
- Creating and maintaining technical documentation for data pipelines, systems, and workflows.
- Developing and optimizing SQL-based data services using technologies like Databricks, Postgres, SQL Server, and Oracle, and supporting BI platform integrations.
Key Tasks and Duties
The Data Engineer will engage in several activities that include but are not limited to:
- Developing, testing, and deploying data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
- Ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and security through validation and monitoring techniques.
- Maintaining legacy data systems and collaborating with support teams to resolve issues.
- Participating in project planning and coordinating software programming efforts within SIT.
- Working closely with business units to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Evaluating new data technologies and tools to improve data workflows.
- Preparing reports on project progress, data quality, and system performance.
Education and Certification Requirements
Qualifications for the Developer should include:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience developing data solutions for business.
- Solid understanding of systems engineering, algorithms, and data structures.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with multiple relational database systems including Postgres, SQL Server, and Oracle.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, C#, .NET, or Visual Basic.
- 1-3 years of business analysis experience in data-intensive environments.
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and cloud data platforms like Databricks is an advantage.
- Experience with databases and Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) frameworks.
- Experience with Power BI or other BI tools is considered an advantage.
- Commitment to ongoing education to keep pace with technology trends.
Non-technical Skills & Competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; knowledge of Dutch or Spanish is an asset.
- Methodical, detail-oriented, analytical, and organized with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to convey technical ideas clearly to non-technical stakeholders with a customer-focused approach.
- Curiosity about emerging technologies and a drive for continuous improvement.
- Experience in the oil and gas industry is advantageous.
- Adaptable to a dynamic, global business environment.
- Capable of multitasking and adjusting to workflow changes promptly.
- Preference for candidates eager for continuous learning and career development.
