JOB OVERVIEW
Plan A Technologies is looking for a skilled FinOps Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for implementing technical cost optimization strategies across cloud infrastructure, driving efficiency through automation, right-sizing, and close collaboration with engineering and operations teams. As a FinOps Engineer, you will play a key role in improving visibility, governance, and control over cloud spending while ensuring cost-effective scaling of infrastructure.
Please note: you must have at least 5+ years of experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their native cost management tools to be considered for this role.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY
Right-size compute, storage, and database resources based on utilization and performance analysis.
Maintain the FinOps dashboard and collaborate with the Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) to implement and enhance automation tools.
Develop and maintain scripts or tools for automated cost optimization, resource tagging enforcement, and compliance.
Provide usage trends and scaling pattern insights to support Savings Plan and Reserved Instance (RI) management, as well as infrastructure spend forecasting.
Review infrastructure architectures to recommend cost-efficient design alternatives.
Monitor usage vs. allocation drift and address under- or over-provisioned resources.
Partner with Cloud Architecture and Product teams to embed cost-awareness into development and deployment practices.
Implement and maintain cost-related guardrails such as spend limits, budget alerts, and auto-shutdown policies for idle resources..
EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field.
5+ years of hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their native cost management tools.
Strong knowledge of infrastructure optimization practices (compute, storage, networking, and databases).
Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.) for automation and tooling.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks (Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep, etc.).
Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.).
Solid understanding of FinOps principles and cloud cost optimization techniques.
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including Finance, Operations, Cloud Architecture, and Product.
Strong problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and focus on efficiency.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with Finance, Engineering, and leadership teams.
Have solid written and verbal English skills.
Ability to maintain a positive work attitude.
Initiative and drive to do great things.
