Job Objective:

We're hiring a Staff Fullstack Engineer to be a technical leader who can move fluidly across the entire stack—from database design to user interfaces. As one of the first fullstack hires, you'll own end-to-end features, establish fullstack engineering standards, and serve as a bridge between our backend and frontend tech leads. This is a senior technical role with high autonomy and the opportunity to mentor future fullstack engineers as the team scales.

Reporting & Collaboration:

You'll report directly to our Head of Engineering, a highly hands-on technical leader who you'll partner with on cross-stack architecture and technical strategy. You'll work closely with our Staff Backend and Staff Frontend engineers to ensure seamless integration across the platform, and help define patterns that enable rapid end-to-end feature delivery.

You'll also collaborate closely with our CPO (Chief Product Officer), designers, and company leadership to rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on new tools and user experiences. This isn't just about implementing tickets—it's about owning entire features from conception to production, making smart tradeoffs, and shipping intelligent, scalable applications quickly.

This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. We move fast using tools like Cursor and Claude Code, and actively leverage AI in our product and development workflows. This is an ideal role for someone who thrives in early-stage environments, enjoys rapid prototyping and iteration, and believes AI development tools can 10X their output.

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Ownership:

• Own end-to-end features from database to UI—you'll be the go-to person for complex features that span the entire stack
• Bridge backend and frontend architectures, ensuring clean contracts, efficient data flow, and consistent patterns
• Establish fullstack engineering standards for code organization, testing, API design, and deployment
• Mentor future fullstack engineers as the team grows (you'll likely guide 1-2 fullstack hires in your first year)
• Lead rapid prototyping for new product ideas and AI-powered features
• Make architectural decisions that balance frontend polish with backend performance

Hands-On Development:

• Design, build, and maintain fullstack features across our core platform, using React, TypeScript, Python, and PostgreSQL
• Collaborate with product and design to rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on new tools and user experiences
• Build intelligent interfaces that surface LLM outputs, human-in-the-loop workflows, and real-time data insights
• Work across layers to integrate with backend APIs, data services, and AI pipelines
• Contribute to both frontend and backend architecture, including component design,state management, API patterns, and performance optimization
• Own features from DB to UI, including schema design, business logic, API endpoints, and user interfaces
• Ship fast, learn from users, and continuously improve the product based on real-world feedback

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Partner with Head of Engineering on cross-stack technical decisions and architecture
• Collaborate with Staff Backend and Staff Frontend engineers to define integration patterns and shared standards
• Work with CPO and product team to shape features based on technical feasibility and user needs
• Support company leadership (Head of Engineering, CPO, President) with rapid prototyping and technical exploration
• Communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Requirements:

• Experience: 7+ years of fullstack engineering experience with at least 1-2 years in a senior IC or tech lead role at a high-growth startup or product company
• Leadership: Track record of owning complex features end-to-end, mentoring engineers, and making architectural decisions independently
• Expert in both React/TypeScript (frontend) and Python (backend), with production experience building scalable applications across the full stack
• Strong database skills: PostgreSQL or similar, including schema design, query optimization, and migrations
• Deep understanding of API design: RESTful patterns, GraphQL, authentication, error handling, and versioning
• Comfortable across the stack: can debug a SQL query, optimize a React component, and design a backend service with equal competence
• Frontend infrastructure knowledge: state management (Context, Redux, Zustand), build tooling (Vite, Webpack), testing (Jest, Cypress)
• Backend infrastructure knowledge: async patterns, queues, caching, monitoring, basic DevOps (Docker, CI/CD)
• Product-minded engineering: you care about UX, performance, accessibility, and user outcomes—not just technical implementation

Preferred:

• Experience building 0→1 products at early-stage startups (seed through Series B)
• Hands-on experience with LLM/AI integration: you've built features using OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source models—including prompt engineering, streaming responses, and human-in-the-loop workflows
• Prior staff engineer or tech lead experience at a Series A+ company
• Experience with or similar fullstack React frameworks
• AI/ML product experience: built user-facing features powered by LLMs or ML models
• Prior work on fintech, data-intensive, or real-time applications
• Experience hiring or mentoring fullstack engineers
• Contributions to open source or technical writing/speaking

Salary: $96,000 to $108,000 USD net annually
