On a typical day, but not limited to, the CAE Structural Engineer performs finite element-based studies to virtually validate vehicle structure parts (component and sub-system level) supporting the Engineering team with design guidance and performance prediction. This position supports the product development process by providing design guidance, identifying cost and weight savings opportunities, and ensuring designs meet technical specifications and regulatory requirements.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automotive Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python, VB, or MATLAB is a plus.
  • Proficiency in statistical and optimization tools/techniques.
  • Required familiarity with CAE optimization tools like Optistruct, HEEDS, or modeFRONTIER, and morphing tools like ANSA/DEP.
  • 4+ years of experience with CAE software such as HyperWorks, ANSA, or other commercial FEA tools.
  • 4+ years of experience with Abaqus, NCODE, Nastran, or other commercial FEA tools for structural and fatigue analyses.
  • Solid understanding of materials properties; knowledge of welding and fatigue theory.
  • Knowledge of statistical and optimization tools/techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to devise, create, or adapt novel analysis methods.
  • Evidence of technical excellence as shown by presentations and reports.
  • Familiarity with Teamcenter and CATIA/3DS
  • Independent, self-motivated, goal-oriented, highly organized, and persistent.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to summarize and present technical work to cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to balance theory with practical constraints.

  • Lead the System Design Specification analysis, drive design development, and document results for exterior system components.
  • Create and modify finite element models that accurately predict vehicle structure performance by following corporate requirements and procedures, conduct CAE model audits.
  • Help develop new analytical capabilities to improve prediction accuracy and support physical testing. Participate in global forums and meetings to share technical information about new procedures and innovative simulation approaches.
  • Coordinate with cross‑functional teams, including Design & Release Engineers, CAE teams, Digital Innovation, Suppliers, Vehicle Engineering, and Manufacturing, to develop integrated solutions using advanced virtual simulations.
  • Produce and evaluate solutions to improve design quality and cost, leveraging specialized engineering knowledge.
  • Interpret CAE and physical test results to develop feasible countermeasures that meet system- and component‑level requirements, correlate CAE models with physical tests.
