Python Backend Developer (Remote)

Location: Remote

Job Type: Freelance

Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week)

Compensation: $25 USD per hour

Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced Python Backend Developer to work on the core backend layer of a production system. The role focuses on backend logic, data modeling, and API reliability rather than UI or frontend concerns.

You will contribute to backend services that handle structured data, business rules, and integrations, working closely with other backend engineers to maintain a clean and scalable architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain backend services using Python.
  • Model and manage relational data using ORM tools (such as SQLAlchemy).
  • Write and optimize SQL queries for transactional systems.
  • Develop and maintain REST-based APIs consumed by external clients.
  • Improve existing backend codebases with attention to clarity and maintainability.
  • Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and design decisions.
  • Identify and address performance, data integrity, and reliability concerns.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation for backend components.

Required Experience

  • Strong professional experience in backend development with Python.
  • Proven experience designing and working with relational databases.
  • Solid hands-on experience with SQL and ORM-based data access.
  • Experience building and maintaining REST APIs.
  • Experience with Python backend frameworks (FastAPI, Starlette, Litestar, or similar).
  • Comfort working in Linux-based environments.
  • Experience using Git in collaborative development workflows.
  • Ability to reason about system behavior, edge cases, and failure modes.
  • Advanced English proficiency (written and spoken).
  • Availability to work full-time (40 hours per week).

Preferred Background

  • Experience maintaining long-lived backend systems.
  • Familiarity with schema evolution, data migrations, and backward compatibility.
  • Exposure to performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Experience working in distributed or remote engineering teams.
  • Interest in software design, clean architecture, and backend best practices.
