Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Tijuana, MX
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating, reviewing, and validating designs, ensuring manufacturability, and supporting production teams in achieving cost, quality, and delivery targets. This role requires strong collaboration with cross-functional teams, technical expertise in design software, and a problem-solving mindset to address discrepancies between design and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate output files (DXF, STEP, etc.) for billing, machining, bending, and other manufacturing processes.
- Provide technical support to the metalworking department in interpreting plans, tolerances, and design specifications.
- Review and validate designs in collaboration with process engineering, production, and quality teams.
- Implement engineering changes and maintain version control of plans.
- Ensure designs meet manufacturability, cost efficiency, and delivery time standards.
- Assist in troubleshooting discrepancies between design and manufacturing.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to develop product and process improvements.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
- Proven experience in mechanical design engineering (preferably in metalworking/manufacturing industry).
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar).
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, bending, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Knowledge of GD&T, tolerances, and design standards.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Min. 3 years' experience with version control systems and engineering change management.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for manufacturing.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
