Job Description

About the role:
The Data Scientist, Associate Scientist is responsible for performing complex data research and analysis to support business operations. This role involves creating data mining architectures, statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies to identify trends in large data sets. By applying knowledge of existing and emerging data science principles, this role informs business decisions and contributes to Takeda's mission.

How you will contribute:

  • Create data mining architectures, models, and protocols to identify trends in large data sets
  • Perform statistical reporting and data analysis to support various business areas
  • Research and apply data science principles, theories, and techniques to inform business decisions
  • Manage projects and processes independently with limited supervision
  • Coach and review the work of lower-level professionals
  • Occasionally lead small project teams and provide informal guidance to junior staff
  • Engage in frequent internal and external interactions to foster productive relationships

Skills and qualifications:

  • Developing practical experience in machine learning, can apply basic concepts with guidance
  • Understands Python's core concepts and constructs, applying them in simple scripts or projects with guidance
  • Can perform basic data manipulation and analysis in R with guidance, understanding fundamental functions and packages
  • Developing practical SQL skills, able to perform basic data manipulation and queries with guidance
  • Developing practical experience with Apache Spark, can perform simple data batch processing and live data streaming with guidance
  • Building practical experience in predictive modeling, can perform simple tasks with guidance and understands basic concepts and terminology
  • Building practical experience in Natural Language Processing, understands basic concepts and applies them in simple situations with continued coaching
  • Developing practical experience with TensorFlow, able to follow basic tutorials and apply concepts in straightforward projects with supervision
  • Understands fundamental Java syntax and constructs; can code simple applications with guidance and is building practical experience
  • Developing practical experience in creating data visualizations, can apply basic principles in simple situations with continued guidance needed
  • Building practical experience in data mining, can apply basic techniques in simple situations with supervision
  • Builds practical experience in Amazon Web Services, managing simple web server setups and database management with ongoing supervision

As a senior professional, you're adept at solving a range of moderate scope and complexity problems, occasionally referring to policies and practices for guidance. Your work involves analyzing situations and data, exercising judgment within established procedures, and fostering productive relationships internally and externally. You possess solid knowledge of industry practices and contribute to departmental projects and goals, often engaging in frequent internal and external interactions. You may occasionally lead small project teams and provide informal guidance to junior staff, all while working with minimal guidance yourself.
