Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Responsible for conducting research, analyzing data, identifying opportunities for digital transformation, and supporting the implementation of digital initiatives under the guidance of experienced professionals. The ultimate goal is to drive innovation and enhance the organization's competitiveness in the digital age.

An IT intern supports the IT department by assisting with technical tasks, gaining hands-on experience in various IT functions, and contributing to projects that enhance their skills and knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and analyze opportunities for digital transformation within engineering, and operations processes

  • Conduct research on industry trends and best practices in digital transformation

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and deploy innovative solutions

  • Assist in the development of business cases for projects

  • Providing technical support, to assist users with providing technical support. This includes troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.

  • Network administration, to provide local assistance with installing, configuring, and maintaining network systems and devices.

  • Documenting processes and procedures to assist with documenting IT processes and procedures to ensure smooth operations.

  • Participating in training and professional development opportunities to improve their skills and knowledge in IT.

  • Shadowing experienced IT professionals in order to observe and learn from experienced IT professionals to gain a deeper understanding of the field.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • A student pursuing a bachelor's degree in business engineering, IT, or a related field.

  • Fully bilingual

Work Experience desired

  • Experience in working with Microsoft O365

  • Understanding of manufacturing, engineering, and operations processes

  • Familiarity with digital tools and technologies (e.g., IoT, data analytics, automation)

Desired Skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Strong problem-solving abilities

  • Experience with coding in R, Python, SQL or other

  • Understanding of IT infrastructure devices and equipment

  • Ability to deliver under tight deadlines and handle multiple detail-oriented tasks

  • Highly analytical mind with exceptional attention to detail

  • Self-motivated, independent, flexible, and quick learner
