Our client, a global leader in professional tools for the construction industry has requested us to search for a Controls and Manufacturing Engineer for their manufacturing plant in Matamoros, Tamps.

Position Summary

The Controls & Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, optimizing, and supporting automated manufacturing processes to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective production of construction tools. This role focuses on industrial controls, equipment integration, process improvement, and troubleshooting to maximize uptime and product quality in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Controls Engineering

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize PLC programs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) to support automated equipment and production lines.
  • Implement and manage Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), vision systems, sensors, drives, and industrial communication networks.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for controls-related equipment failures and process interruptions.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new automation systems, robotic cells, and safety devices.
  • Ensure all control systems comply with electrical and safety standards (NFPA, OSHA, ISO, IEC).

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Analyze and optimize manufacturing processes to improve safety, efficiency, throughput, and cost.
  • Develop SOPs, standardized work, and process documentation.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies.
  • Support introduction of new products (NPI) by designing tooling, fixtures, and process flows.
  • Drive preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for high-volume production equipment.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams to resolve process issues and maintain stable operations.

Project Management

  • Plan and execute engineering projects including equipment upgrades, automation initiatives, line expansions, and layout changes.
  • Develop technical specifications for equipment purchases and collaborate with suppliers and integrators.
  • Manage timelines, budgets, and risk assessments for assigned projects.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 3–7 years of experience in manufacturing, preferably in metalworking, high-volume assembly, or construction tools production.
  • Proven experience with PLC programming, robotics, or automated machinery.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMIs, SCADA, and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profibus, Modbus).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and machining operations.
  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for tooling and layout design.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, PFMEA, Six Sigma, and process validation.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Results-driven, hands-on, and comfortable working on the shop floor.
  • Ability to lead multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
