Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

As an Associate Counsel within NBCUniversal's Latin America business, you will support the business on a wide-range of legal matters relating to the distribution of NBCUniversal channels and services across Latin America.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate, draft, and interpret legal documents relating to the distribution of NBCUniversal channels and services across Latin America (e.g., distribution agreements and promotion authorizations designed to acquire and retain subscribers).
  • Partner with the Distribution Team to support the development of best practices in line with NBCUniversal's content rights.
  • Support the development of processes and templates designed to ensure the long-term efficiency of the legal function.
  • Work with the Content Protection Team to combat piracy in the region; including the drafting of cease and desist letters, collaboration with allies, and lobbying applicable governments to gain support.
  • Analyze industry and regulatory developments in Mexico with the goal of identifying and managing possible impacts to the business.
  • Communicate effectively to internal clients to ensure efficient management of open matters, including organizing and leading meetings as necessary.
  • Collaborate as needed with subject-matter experts; including outside counsel as well as NBCUniversal's Corporate legal teams, including the Compliance, Tax, Corporate Secretary, Privacy, Cyber Security, and Litigation Teams.
  • Inspire collaboration across the legal function by developing and maintaining relationships with relevant counterparts across the globe.
  • Train and counsel the business on applicable policies and best practices, including approval processes, key contractual issues, and risk management.
  • Provide support on any other matters that the business or legal function may need.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Degree from accredited law school, demonstrated academic achievement, and current bar membership in Mexico in good standing
  • A minimum of 2 years of media business and legal affairs experience at a law firm and/or media company
  • Working knowledge of relevant Mexican media and telecommunication laws
  • Language: Fluent in English & Spanish, Portuguese is a plus

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must submit a resume/CV through to be considered.
  • Must be willing to work in Mexico City, Mexico.
  • Must be willing to work late evenings, and occasional holidays or weekends per business need.
  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU's Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.

  • Strong analytic, drafting, organizational, and communication skills
  • Takes ownership of matters, including by taking a solutions oriented approach and thinking ahead
  • Effectively copes with a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment, including proper prioritization of matters
  • Ability to quickly pivot as business needs and priorities evolve
  • Experience in media services distribution agreements as well as consumer protection matters in Latin America is preferred
  • Works as a team player, continuously collaborating within the legal function and with business partners
  • Takes the initiative to find opportunities to add value
  • Works independently and to a high professional standard
