We are assisting a fast-growing, venture-backed startup in the search for a talented Backend Data Engineer. Our client is a remote-first company dedicated to reimagining how organizations manage and govern their Business Intelligence ecosystems.

They are building a sophisticated platform to bring order and observability to complex data environments. We are looking for an engineer to help build the core of this platform.

The Role

Our client is seeking a Backend Data Engineer to take ownership of the architecture and scaling of their core data infrastructure. You will be responsible for the data ingestion, transformation, and lineage systems that power their main products.

This is a hands-on engineering role in a collaborative environment. You will work closely with the product, frontend, and DevOps teams to build reliable, scalable, and high-performance services.

What You'll Do

  • Design & Build:
    Architect and optimize backend systems and APIs (using Python and FastAPI) that power data discovery and lineage.
  • Scale Ingestion:
    Develop scalable data pipelines to integrate with a wide rangeof external BI platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Qlik).
  • Manage Workflows:
    Implement and maintain robust data jobs using Airflow (MWAA), focusing on reliability and fault tolerance.
  • Process Data:
    Use large-scale frameworks like Apache Spark and dbt to transform and standardize complex metadata.
  • Collaborate:
    Work with frontend engineers to support their React-based UI through performant, well-structured APIs.
  • Improve Infrastructure:
    Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and service monitoring.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience:
    4-7 years of backend or data engineering experience, preferably in a production SaaS environment.
  • Python Expert:
    Deep experience with Python and backend frameworks like FastAPI.
  • Database Skills:
    Strong understanding of database design and experience with PostgreSQL.
  • Architecture:
    Proven experience with RESTful APIs, microservice architecture, and distributed systems.
  • Data Tools:
    Familiarity with Airflow (or MWAA) for orchestration and Spark for distributed processing.
  • Infrastructure:
    Comfortable working in containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Teamwork:
    Excellent communication skills for a remote-first, collaborative team.
  • Bonus:
    Exposure to BI/analytics ecosystems, data lineage, or metadata management.
