Legal team

This position will report to the Chief Legal Officer (CLO) and will be responsible for providing legal support to all legal entities of the Group in banking and regulatory matters. This position will work closely with Compliance/PLD, Risk, Product/Operations, CLO and senior leadership to ensure rigorous compliance with Mexican financial regulations and be able to manage relationships with financial regulators (CNBV, Banco de México, SHCP/UIF, CONDUSEF). Working experience in Banks or financial entities is key for this position.

Challenges that await you:

  • Deep knowledge of Banking and financial regulations (Ley de Instituciones de Crédito (LIC), Disposiciones de Carácter General aplicables a instituciones de crédito (CUB/DCG), circulars from Banco de México (payments, SPEI/CoDi, FX), CONSUSEF regulations, and related frameworks.
  • Have the expertise to handle authorizations and regulatory notifications (changes of control/management, bylaws, products affecting terms & conditions, new branches/channels, outsourcing/cloud, correspondents).
  • Manage regulatory exams and writs (requerimientos/oficios), remediation plans, and close-out of findings with auditable evidence.
  • Coordinate registry of Contracts of adhesion at CONDUSEF as well as management of reporting of legal disclosures and requirements.
  • Drafting of banking products agreements with Clients (deposit, lending, credit cards, SMEs, etc.).
  • Administer and foster a closer relationship with the regulators and authorities.
  • Proactively identify regulatory areas of opportunity and propose potential solutions from the legal standpoint.
  • Provide legal risk assessment and suggestions to enhance business value while mitigating downside risk across the company.
  • Anticipate and maintain up-to-date knowledge of banking and finance laws and regulation to provide strategic advice and foster their compliance.
  • Take reasonable risks within the context of the overall business and advise and implement solutions to address any identified legal issues.
  • Proactively brief executives on regulatory change and impacts.

What makes you a great fit:

  • Bachelor of Laws (Licenciatura en Derecho) with valid license to practice in Mexico.
  • 10+ years in banking/financial regulatory work at an international law firm and/or regulated financial institution.
  • Proven experience with CNBV, Banxico, SHCP/UIF, CONDUSEF interactions (exams, meetings, filings, remediation).
  • Deep knowledge of banking and financial regulations, including, CNBV regulations, Banxico circulars (payments/SPEI/CoDi), PLD/FT, CONDUSEF regulations and related privacy/outsourcing requirements.
  • Fluent in business Spanish and English.
