We are conducting a
confidential search
for a
Senior Accountant
with strong experience in
accounts payable, month-end close, and international trade compliance
to support a U.S.-based company with complex import/export operations and multiple legal entities.

This is a hands-on, senior-level role that blends core accounting responsibilities with
customs duty auditing, VAT, and regulatory compliance
. The ideal candidate has worked closely with logistics providers, understands trade documentation, and is comfortable navigating highly regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable & Vendor Management

  • Process invoices from freight forwarders, 3PLs, customs brokers, and service providers.
  • Ensure proper approvals, accurate coding, and posting in the ERP system.
  • Manage payments to third-party logistics and service vendors.
  • Reconcile vendor accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Partner with internal and international teams to ensure timely and accurate updates.

Tax, Trade & Compliance

  • Post VAT entries and collaborate with international stakeholders to ensure compliance.
  • Support customs duty audits by reviewing import documentation, classifications, and duty payments.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and prepare compliance reports as required.

Month-End Close & Reporting

  • Support month-end close activities, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare and format financial reports for internal review.
  • Assist with royalty, rebate, and commission reporting.
  • Identify and escalate rebate non-compliance issues to internal legal teams.

General Accounting

  • Perform account reconciliations and support amortization and depreciation schedules.
  • Post monthly bank activity and interest income.
  • Maintain and update schedules for notes payable.
  • Post interest entries across multiple entities.
  • Prepare supporting schedules for internal and external reporting.

Customs Duty Auditing & Trade Compliance

  • Audit import customs entries and supporting documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists).
  • Review and validate Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, valuation, and country of origin.
  • Conduct post-entry audits and support corrective filings (e.g., Post Summary Corrections).
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. and international regulations (CBP, FDA, and other partner government agencies).
  • Analyze audit findings, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain records in accordance with CBP requirements and internal policies.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, International Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience
    , preferably in a trade-heavy or import/export environment.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, and matching principles.
  • Experience supporting month-end close in multi-entity environments.
  • Ability to reconcile budget vs. actual variances.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, reconciliations, data analysis).
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred; Oracle or QuickBooks a plus).
  • Familiarity with trade management or customs-related systems strongly preferred.
