About the role: TLNT Group is seeking a Fractional Controller to own the financial operations, controls, and overall financial health of the business. This role is not responsible for day-to-day bookkeeping, but is fully accountable for ensuring the books, reporting, cash management, and financial processes are accurate, timely, and decision-ready.
The Controller will act as the senior finance operator for the business—bringing structure, discipline, and foresight to cash flow, billing, collections, payroll oversight, month-end close, and financial reporting across multiple service lines (staffing, direct hire, recurring services).
This is a hands-on, execution-oriented role requiring strong judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to proactively identify risks and improvement opportunities.

What You'll Do
Financial Ownership & OversightOwn the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reportingEnsure QuickBooks is maintained to controller-level standards (even if bookkeeping is executed by others)Review and approve transaction categorization, journal entries, reconciliations, and close outputsEnsure balance sheet integrity (no unexplained or drifting accounts)Cash Flow & Liquidity ManagementOwn short- and medium-term cash flow forecasting (weekly and rolling 30–60 day outlook)Monitor daily cash position and upcoming obligations (payroll, taxes, vendor payments)Identify cash risks early and propose mitigation actionsPartner with leadership on timing of collections, payments, and discretionary spendBilling, AR & Collections OversightOversee billing processes across staffing and direct hire servicesEnsure invoices are accurate, timely, and aligned with contracts and client rostersOwn A/R aging review and collections strategy (including escalation frameworks)Identify systemic billing or payment issues and drive corrective actionTrack client payment behavior and concentration riskPayroll & COGS OversightOversee payroll processing and payroll accounting (QBP or equivalent)Ensure payroll liabilities, taxes, and accruals are correct and reconciledEnsure staffing payroll is properly classified as COGS, and margins are accurateMonitor gross margin trends and flag compression or anomaliesMonth-End Close & ReportingOwn the month-end close process, including:
Bank and credit card reconciliationsPayroll and liability reconciliationsRevenue and expense accuracyRequired accruals and adjustmentsDeliver timely, decision-ready financials, P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash summary, AR agingEnsure months are formally closed and locked after reviewFinancial Controls & Process ImprovementDesign and enforce financial controls appropriate for a growing services businessIdentify and eliminate process gaps, inefficiencies, and risk areasImprove documentation, checklists, and workflows across finance operationsEnsure a clean audit trail and readiness for CPA, tax, or diligence requestsLeadership & Cross-Functional PartnershipAct as a thought partner to the CEO on financial performance and riskSupport forecasting, planning, and scenario analysis as neededPartner with operations and sales to ensure financial realities align with executionCoordinate with external CPA/tax partners as required
What You Need
Required Experience5+ years in accounting/finance roles, with prior Controller or Senior Accounting Manager experienceStrong experience in services-based businesses, with exposure to recurring-revenue modelsHands-on experience with QuickBooksDeep understanding of AR, payroll, COGS, and cash flow managementExperience working with founders or small executive teamsSkills & AttributesExceptionally detail-oriented with strong financial judgmentProactive, ownership-driven mindset (doesn't wait to be asked)Strong communicator—able to explain financial issues clearly and succinctlyComfortable operating in an imperfect, fast-moving environmentAble to balance precision with speedSuccess in This Role Looks LikeLeadership fully trusts the numbers, and decisions can be made based on theseFinancials are consistently up to date and accurate throughout the monthCash flow surprises are rareBilling and collections are predictable and disciplinedMonth-end closes are smooth, timely, and repeatableFinancial risks are identified early, not after damage is doneSalary & Perks
Competitive SalaryThis is a full-time, long-term position.
