We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Data QA Engineer to validate and ensure the integrity, quality, and reliability of large-scale data pipelines and platforms on GCP. You will work closely with data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to create and execute test strategies for Big Data environments leveraging BigQuery, Cloud DataProc, Cloud Composer, and related GCP services. You will also ensure compliance with data governance, MDM, and lineage standards.
**Responsibilities**:
Develop and execute data test strategies, plans, and test cases across structured and unstructured data pipelines
Perform data quality assurance (QA) checks for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness
Validate data pipelines and workflows built on BigQuery, Cloud DataProc (Spark/Hadoop), and Cloud Composer (Airflow)
Automate data validations using SQL, Python, or PySpark
Ensure data lineage and metadata are accurately captured and validated using cataloging tools (e.g., Collibra, Atlan)
Perform source-to-target data validation, schema checks, and record-level reconciliation
Support DataOps initiatives by integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., with Git, Jenkins, or Cloud Build)
Collaborate with stakeholders to define and enforce data quality metrics and thresholds
Ensure data complies with security, governance, and MDM policies
Log and track issues, perform root cause analysis, and work with engineering teams to resolve them
**Requirements**:
4+ years of experience in Data QA, Data Engineering QA, or Data Testing
**Experience with GCP Big Data tools**: BigQuery, Cloud DataProc, Cloud Composer
Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for data testing and validation
Hands-on experience with data profiling, test automation, and data comparison tools
Familiarity with ETL/ELT pipelines and data warehouse/lake architectures
Knowledge of data governance, data lineage, and MDM concepts
Experience integrating QA in DataOps workflows and tools
Exposure to data catalog and lineage tools like Collibra, Alation, or Atlan
**Nice to have**:
GCP certification (e.g., Professional Data Engineer)
Experience with dbt, pytest, or Great Expectations for data testing
Familiarity with tools like Jenkins, Airflow, or CI/CD pipelines
Knowledge of data security, encryption, and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA)
