The Business Process Specialist is an entry level role in the Business Process Specialists job family, operating in low to medium complexity environments at a business unit level and reporting to a senior manager in the business.
They take their guidance from the Principal Business Process Specialist and their primary responsibility is to devise and design business process requirements, including researching, identifying and analysing the efficiency of existing business and/or operational processes and making recommendations for change to ensure an improvement in client service, reduction in costs or an increase in efficiencies. In so doing, they define, develop, document, test and optimise the processes that support the business.

Identify process improvements
The Business Process Specialist uses their analytical skills to assist with the proactive identification of business and/or operational process improvements through data analysis to ensure constructive suggestions for change. They use the information gathered from minor and less complex incidents raised by the operation to ensure the identification of process improvements. They also identify potential cross-functional synergies and improvements that will ensure optimal performance within their area of responsibility. These individuals assess business systems through business risk assessment and assist in the identification of risk mitigating strategies. By utilising complex analysis techniques such as transaction testing, benchmarking of best practice and external research, they assess process strengths and weaknesses. The Business Process Specialist conducts impact assessments of process gaps by analysing grey areas not clearly defined by established standards and ensuring that these are mapped during the design process.
Design process improvements
These individuals facilitate the design / re-design of business processes including clarifying, identifying issues and facilitating changes to attain the highest levels of client service, efficiency, control and compliance. They develop, standardize, and maintain new or improved processes based on their findings and analysis. The Business Process Specialist engages with a variety of stakeholders and facilitates workshops to generate, review and update the new improved processes. They suggest and implement continuous operational improvements with clear measurable benefits and present the relevant business cases which articulate return on investment to the relevant stakeholders. These individuals assist with the definition of risk mitigation action plans to resolve existing gaps in processes. They ensure the preparation of detailed process diagrams and the accompanying documentation in terms of their process design.
Implement process improvements
The Business Process Specialist assists with the implementation of operational changes to support marketing campaigns, new regulatory requirements and business projects. They liaise and engage with clients to drive change in their business and contribute to the new client or services take-on process, ensuring that all processes are documented accurately. They ensure that all new processes are tested prior to implementation and liaise with the required internal teams to ensure the change control and management process.
Project management
These individuals assist with the implementation and delivery of internal and external projects related to business process improvement, against a predetermined project plan. They identify resources required and ensure the appropriate allocation of such resources. At times, they may be required to assist with the scoping of projects and the identification of cause and effect relationships to ensure that the necessary steps are established to mitigate risk. They ensure that the required change management processes are followed and initiatives are implemented in line with Dimension Data standards and methodology.
Reports and documentation
The Business Process Specialist ensures that both internal and external stakeholder expectations are effectively managed through regular communication and accurate reporting as required.
