They build high-throughput payment solutions—including enterprise client invoicing systems and one-click e-commerce checkouts—that serve millions of users and power major commercial operations daily. Driven by rapid expansion and high-scale operational demands, they rely on elite engineering talent to architect, automate, and optimize their core cloud and messaging systems.

The Role

Our Client is seeking a highly skilled Senior DevOps Engineer to design, implement, and maintain a robust, high-throughput Apache Kafka messaging infrastructure serving as the communication backbone for their core payment processor. Far beyond general cloud maintenance, this professional will collaborate directly with company founders, platform teams, and backend engineers to automate microservice deployments, build Infrastructure as Code (IaC), establish PCI-DSS compliant security, and implement end-to-end performance observability. Reporting in a remote-first setup across a full-time Monday-through-Friday schedule, this seat requires an engineer who excels in high-availability, low-latency fintech environments

Key Responsibilities

Distributed Infrastructure & Kafka Architecture

Designs, manages, and tunes high-throughput, low-latency Apache Kafka clusters to power real-time data streaming across microservices.

Leads Kafka version upgrades, partition strategy designs, and cluster rebalancing with zero disruption to core payment flows.

Establishes automated deployment, management, and operational workflows for complex distributed systems using Docker and Kubernetes.

Authors and maintains Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for Kafka ecosystem tools using Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent deployment stacks.

Observability, CI/CD & Reliability Engineering

Builds centralized observability systems capturing logs, metrics, and traces using Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Confluent Control Center.

Designs and optimizes automated CI/CD pipelines for microservices and cloud infrastructure using GitHub Actions and Jenkins.

Formulates disaster recovery plans, automated rollout/rollback protocols, and failover strategies for production payment pipelines.

Participates in incident response processes for infrastructure outages, performing deep-dive root cause analyses and performance optimizations.

Compliance, Security & Stakeholder Collaboration

Establishes access controls, security policies, and end-to-end encryption for messaging pipelines to ensure full PCI-DSS regulatory compliance.

Partners with backend engineers and SREs to integrate clean Kafka producer/consumer models into high-scale transaction flows.

Maintains proactive technical communication across all engineering tiers in both English and Spanish.

Qualifications, Skills, and Key Competencies

Required Qualifications

Senior DevOps / Infrastructure Expertise:

Demonstrated experience architecting and managing high-scale distributed systems and microservices in production.

Apache Kafka & Streaming Mastery:

Deep technical proficiency in designing, operating, scaling, and troubleshooting high-availability Apache Kafka clusters.

Containerization & IaC:

Mastery of Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and Ansible for automated infrastructure orchestration.

Observability & Tracing:

Strong experience implementing tracing, metrics, and logging frameworks via Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar tools.

CI/CD Automation:

Proven track record building robust CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or equivalent tools.

Security & Compliance:

Familiarity with encryption standards, access management, and financial compliance frameworks (e.g., PCI DSS).

Bilingual Fluency:

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.
