Software Development Engineer, Device Software and Services (DS2)
The Cloud Connectivity and Management Services (C2MS) organization, within Device Software and Services (DS2), owns the end-to-end solutions to connect, communicate, keep up to date, and manage all Amazon-powered devices through the Amazon Cloud. Our services handle persistent device-to-cloud connectivity, bidirectional Device Messaging, Over-the-Air software updates, and Remote Settings Management at a scale of hundreds of millions of devices across multiple regions.
Being part of the Device Messaging team means that the software we build is used by every person you know who owns an Amazon Device, and by dozens of external partners that send messages to our devices. The scale and reach we present at Amazon is a unique opportunity to directly influence the experience of millions of customers around the world. We own the complete end-to-end Device Messaging experience for all Amazon devices. We enable guaranteed delivery of push notifications, synchronous request-response messaging, and device-to-cloud communication for dozens of internal 1P teams (Echo, Fire TV, Kindle, Tablets), platform teams, and hundreds of third-party applications.
As a Senior SDE on this team, you will be a technical leader who defines the ideal customer experience for users of our Device Messaging services. You will drive innovation in messaging solutions, and define the end-to-end experience of our customers, including observability, data analytics, message delivery insights, and customer action analytics to make our platform best-in-class. Additionally, you will consult across other C2MS teams, including Remote Settings and Over-the-Air Updates, to help solve complex cross-cutting technical challenges.
Architect and deliver complex software systems that align with Amazon's engineering standards and business objectives.
Drive technical decisions and design reviews that impact multiple services or teams within the organization.
Lead development of critical features while mentoring junior engineers in technical best practices and engineering principles.
Establish and maintain robust monitoring, metrics, and operational excellence practices for high-availability systems.
Define and enforce code quality standards, testing strategies, and documentation requirements across projects.
Participate in building high-performing teams through technical interviews and making data-driven hiring recommendations.
You might start your morning reviewing a technical design document from a teammate, providing feedback that strengthens the approach before a broader design review.
Later, you dive into code, perhaps refactoring a critical component to improve extensibility or prototyping an interface that defines boundaries between services. You wrap up by pairing with a junior engineer on a tricky debugging session, turning it into a coaching moment.
We are building teams with Amazon DNA in Guadalajara, Mexico: two-pizza teams who are the single-threaded owners of their end-to-end experience. You will be the only team responsible for defining all architectural decisions, implementation, testing, and operational excellence for Amazon Device Messaging.
It is still Day 1 in the Devices business, and we are seeking a creative problem-solver with exceptional judgment and the ability to deliver results under ambiguous circumstances and tight timelines.
