Each one of our collaborators works with different teams and colleagues around the world, in the design and commercialization of software. We look forward to having you as part of our team in the role of Senior Software Architect (API & MCP Connectors), serving as the technical owner of the connectors platform for an AI product company based in San Francisco. You will define how the product integrates with third-party systems through APIs and Model Context Protocol (MCP), and ensure the team builds secure, scalable, and maintainable connectors without needing constant validation from San Francisco.
Key Responsibilities
- Design the architecture of the connector framework: common patterns, authentication, error handling, rate limiting, retries, versioning, and observability.
- Define the standard for integrations via API (REST, GraphQL, webhooks, events) and via MCP (clients and servers).
- Lead the design and development of product MCP servers: tools, resources, prompts, transport (stdio / Streamable HTTP), and authorization (OAuth 2.1).
- Write RFCs and design docs; lead design reviews with the team and the CTO.
- Do hands-on coding on critical components and run code reviews for the team.
- Establish practices for testing, CI/CD, security (secrets management, scopes, multi-tenancy), and monitoring.
- Technically evaluate candidates for the rest of the integration team.
Required Skills & Experience
- 10+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years in an architect, staff, or principal engineer role.
- Deep experience designing integrations at scale: third-party APIs, OAuth 2.0/OIDC, webhooks, data synchronization, idempotency, pagination, and rate limits.
- Has designed and taken to production a connector/integration platform or SDK (or an iPaaS-type product) used by external customers.
- Strong command of at least one of: TypeScript/Node.js or Python (preferred), Go, or Java.
- Experience with distributed systems and cloud (AWS or GCP), containers, and event-driven architectures.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs: tool/function calling, agents, or integrating models into a product.
- Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy and communicate technical decisions to executives.
- Advanced/native English.
Nice to Have
- Has built an MCP server (open source, internal, or product) using the official SDKs.
- Has integrated MCP servers into applications or agents as a client.
- Open-source contributions to integrations, SDKs, or the MCP/agents ecosystem.
- Experience with enterprise integrations (SAP, Salesforce, Workday, ERPs).
- Previous experience in U.S. product startups.
