We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer to join our team. This role offers the chance to work on complex data systems that support critical business operations at scale. You'll be part of a team that values technical depth, problem-solving, and a proactive approach to maintaining robust infrastructure. This position is well-suited for someone who enjoys tackling challenging database architecture problems and contributing to long-term system reliability.
ResponsibilitiesPlan Cassandra cluster deployments by estimating data volume and determining hardware requirements based on projected data size and transaction loadSet up, install, and configure new Cassandra clusters from the ground upEmploy monitoring tools to track cluster availability and overall performanceExport stored data into various formats as needed for downstream useApply primary and secondary indexes appropriately to enable efficient data queryingCarry out backup and restore procedures to protect the system against potential failuresFine-tune performance settings related to the Java Virtual Machine, caching mechanisms, and compaction processesRun stress tests against Cassandra clusters and interpret the resulting performance metricsRequirementsA minimum of three years of hands-on, relevant professional experienceDeep knowledge of designing and building Cassandra or other NoSQL database systemsAny exposure to Astra or AWS Keyspaces platformsPractical skill in Cassandra data modeling, NoSQL architecture design, and managing keyspaces, tables, indexes, user creation, and access permissionsSolid understanding of Cassandra's internal mechanisms, including the gossip protocol, hinted handoffs, read repair processes, and Merkle treesWorking knowledge of Linux systems and Java configurationFamiliarity with MongoDBUnderstanding of tombstone management and garbage collection/purging processesExperience administering, maintaining, and supporting clusters using tools such as Opscenter, Devcenter, Linux, and SparkAbility to write CQL queries to support integration with Cassandra clustersBasic experience configuring CI/CD pipelinesSolid communication skills with English fluency at a B2 level or higher, enabling clear understanding of business requirements and their translation into agentic architecturesNice to haveExperience working with DataStax Enterprise (DSE)Familiarity with AWS services, including at minimum Elastic Compute, S3, and IAMBackground integrating systems with Solr and SparkExposure to automation and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or TeamCityKnowledge of Terraform, CloudFormation, and PythonWe offerInternational projects with top brandsWork with global teams of highly skilled, diverse peersHealthcare benefitsEmployee financial programsPaid time off and sick leaveUpskilling, reskilling and certification coursesUnlimited access to the LinkedIn Learning library and 22,000+ coursesGlobal career opportunitiesVolunteer and community involvement opportunitiesEPAM Employee GroupsAward-winning culture recognized by Glassdoor, Newsweek and LinkedInEPAM is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
