We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Purchaser to join our team, based in Mexico, to oversee and manage our supply chain operations across the Central and North American subregions. This role is pivotal in ensuring the strategic alignment of our procurement activities with our business objectives, fostering strong supplier relationships, and driving cost-effective sourcing strategies.

Main Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Manage and develop the supplier base, performance, relationships, and negotiations in close cooperation with Divisions/BLs/Support Functions and Category Managers. Create and update agreements with suppliers, maintain SAP Outline Agreements and supplier master data in relevant parts. This includes data agreed with the supplier in the contract (SSPA, etc.) or its appendix (price list) and data related to supplier company details. Lead/support/participate in negotiations, secure supplier capacity, and long-term forecasting. Ensure Quality, Delivery, Lead Time, and Cost development and Compliance of materials and services for own area of responsibility. Be a member of the cross-functional Category team, leading own business line requirements in the nominated category. The Strategic Purchaser is expected to represent own business line requirements and take action to find the optimal outcome in Category Works and act as an active link between the business line and the Category Team. Contribute to the category action plan creation and its implementation. Drive future supply demand in cooperation with the needed functions in own area of responsibility. Gather and analyze spend and supplier data, execute benchmarking, and provide data to the relevant functions. Support non-conformity/warranty process management in escalated issues. Secure compliance with Supply Management processes/procedures, tools, strategies, and agreements. As part of the Wärtsilä Part Approval Process, secure preconditions for (and execute and manage) test/spot orders. Execute/support material/services for cost budgeting and follow-up. Execute/support the supplier lifecycle management process. As part of active Performance Management, communicate progress and escalate recurring issues to the Category Manager and/or Manager of Supply Management in the respective unit. Support non-conformity/warranty process management in escalated issues.

Skills and Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in strategic purchasing. Proficiency in Spanish, English, and Portuguese is mandatory. Strong negotiation and relationship management skills. Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems, particularly in supplier management modules. Ability to analyze data and understand market trends to make informed purchasing decisions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural team environment. Proven track record of cost savings and supplier performance improvements. Willingness to travel as required.
