Purpose

Led the Transportation and Logistics Department to develop and implement, continuous improvement and execution of Newmont’s transportation and logistics strategy, policies standards, and guidelines to drive shared goals and objectives across the supply chain and specifically for site Transportation and Logistics activities. Oversee all modal and planning activities for local and international transportation, customs management, and warehousing services through third-party logistics services, and work with site teams to ensure all regulatory obligations are met, understood, and in compliance with the government regulations and Newmont procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

o Support site teams and the Supply Chain Manager in the development, implementation, continuous improvement and execution of Newmont’s Transportation and Logistics program strategy, policies, standards, and guidelines, including analysis of embedded freight costs, performing tradeoffs, and defining and delivering value accretive T&L improvement initiatives and projects. 

o Build reporting of targets, metrics, and key performance indicators for Penasquito. Including, identifying, installing and tracking performance within a transportation system. Considerations include cost/service tradeoffs, transit time, cycle time, line item availability and effect on order completeness, broader supply chain measures and claims. 

o Analyze current service levels, availability, and pricing of various forms of transportation services. Considerations include software solutions, brokerage options, multi-modes (air/intermodal/truckload/rail), fuel, capacity, technology (electronic commerce/TMS), internet transportation exchanges, labor markets, understanding service/transit/cost differences, knowledge and understanding of third party logistics marketplace. 

o Build mutually beneficial relationships between supply chain teams and service suppliers (from end-user “customer” through to the supplier). 

Others:

o Support implementation of customs processes and regulations (including HAZMAT, ESR, and freight forwarding) associated with modal planning. 
o Apply knowledge of relevant logistical software available to enhance productivity and decision-making and methods of communicating transportation activities to necessary parties.

o Support the creation of a Site risk profile for logistics & transportation and protect company assets by monitoring service providers, and filing claims when loss or damage occurs. 

o Build load plans, able to create and implement process fundamentals of load planning.

o Ensure that all logistics and transport providers comply with Safety requirements promoting the company’s safety culture and Regional Standards, including training assigned staff, clearly stating safety expectations, ensuring unsafe events are reviewed promptly, and 100% compliance with all Newmont and governmental regulations. 

o Know and demonstrate commitment and compliance, within the limits of his/her control and when applicable to his/her activities, with the Penasquito Declaration on Environmental Commitments, the Newmont environmental procedures, and the responsibilities assigned and scheduled for his/her department.

o Demonstrate social sensitivity, commitment, and compliance with the Newmont Social Responsibility policy; maintain socially responsible behavior with the Community and the Company.

o Know and comply with the company's Internal Work Regulations and Code of Ethics and Conduct, and promote the Inclusion and Diversity culture programs. 

The above responsibilities are the main responsibilities of the position. The position also develops other activities that are not included in this document and the immediate supervisor is responsible for informing such activities.

Training & Experience

o Evidence of leading transportation and logistics teams (Re-supply and Projects) and having direct reports is required.
o Knowledge of HAZMAT, customs, and transportation regulations is required.
o Knowledge of International Commerce is required.
o Knowledge of digital platforms related to barcoding, track & trace, and other related applications. 
o Knowledge of Material Management Processes through SAP or equivalent enterprise-level software packages is necessary. 
o Project Management Skills
o Must have ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications including Visio and Project.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
o Excellent influencing and teamwork skills at all levels within an organization.

 

Experience

    Required: Five (5)+ years of experience leading the Transportation and Logistics Department or  (8)+ years of experience across Warehousing, local and international Transportation, Customs, and Logistics Management, with at least one year or equivalent management experience within these functions. 

    Required: Five (5)+ years of experience managing third-party Transportation and Logistics providers for local and international services.

    Mining experience preferred.

 

Professional Education

    Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
    Master in Supply Chain Management or International Commerce or equivalent is preferred.
