Tooling Design and Development:- Lead the design and development of stamping dies, progressive dies, and other tooling systems for automotive components.
- Utilize CAD/CAM software to create detailed tooling designs, ensuring alignment with production requirements and quality standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize tooling designs for performance, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
Process Optimization and Improvement:- Analyze existing stamping and die cut processes to identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, productivity, and quality.
- Implement design modifications and process enhancements to optimize cycle times, reduce scrap rates, and improve part quality.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to maximize tooling lifespan and minimize downtime.
Materials Selection and Testing:- Evaluate materials, coatings, and heat treatment processes for tooling components, considering factors such as durability, wear resistance, and thermal stability.
- Conduct material testing and analysis to determine optimal selections for specific applications and operating conditions.
- Collaborate with suppliers to source high-quality materials and components for tooling fabrication.
Technical Support and Troubleshooting:- Provide technical support to production teams during tooling setup, debugging, and troubleshooting activities.
- Investigate and resolve issues related to tooling performance, part quality, and dimensional accuracy.
- Develop and implement corrective actions to address root causes of tooling-related problems and prevent recurrence.
Continuous Learning and Development:- Stay updated on industry trends, advancements, and best practices related to metal stamping, die cutting, and tooling engineering.
- Pursue professional development opportunities to enhance expertise in stamping die design, materials science, and manufacturing technologies.
- Share knowledge and mentor junior engineers to foster a mindset of continuous improvement and innovation within the organization.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in tooling engineering within the automotive industry, with a high focus on metal stamping and die cut processes. (Tooling in the plastic injection industry don't apply).
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., CATIA, AutoForm) and FEA analysis tools.
- In-depth knowledge of stamping die design principles, including strip layout, forming processes, and die components.
- Experience with materials selection, heat treatment, and surface coatings for tooling applications.
- Familiarity with automotive quality standards (e.g., TS 16949) and APQP processes.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Some level of english proficiency.
