As a Principal Software Engineer, you will lead a team of engineers in Mexico, focusing on designing, building, and deploying UI technology for investment managers creating and consuming buy-side research content. You will report to the Tech Lead and collaborate with US-based project leads, managing local engineers to deliver high-quality web applications. What You’ll Be Doing Partner with clients to lead the design and development of user experiences using modern web technologies. Manage a team of front-end engineers and coordinate with other contributors to deliver software solutions. Contribute to the Lab49 Engineering Team by sharing your expertise and helping foster a culture of high-quality software development. Act as a hands-on engineer and architect, supporting small initiatives and designing complex systems. Lead projects and collaborate across teams to ensure successful outcomes. Build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders, acting as a strategic partner and technical advisor. Contribute to expanding Lab49’s footprint and securing future work. Work with the business development team to create pitches, define problems, present solutions, and negotiate engagement terms. Engage in industry events and public speaking to grow your network. Support the development of management skills within the engineering team, fostering strategic career growth. Required Skills and Experience 10+ years of experience designing and building complex software applications, with 5+ years leading Agile teams. Proven leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Experience managing project teams and interacting with clients in finance, consulting, or startups. Passion for technology and staying current with industry trends. Hands-on experience with TypeScript and React for frontend development. Experience with cloud platforms and SDLC practices such as continuous delivery. Strong understanding of testing, quality assurance, CI/CD, source control, and code reviews. Excellent written and spoken English communication skills. Bonus Points Experience with financial products like Bloomberg, Symphony, Excel, Salesforce, Databricks, etc. Knowledge of other JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (Angular, Vue). Experience in capital markets, especially buy-side investment management. Experience with Terraform, backend engineering (C#/.NET, ASP.NET Core), SQL, and AWS infrastructure. Why Lab49?
