We are seeking a Safety Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Safety Engineer at SSOE, you will collaborate with engineering teams and Corporate staff to monitor and control the company's safety standards in the workplace in accordance with applicable regulations, such as Mexico NOM´s, STPS, and state regulations, or government building codes.

This position is an onsite role that requires you to work at our Leon, Gto. Offices and to be able to travel to our Chihuahua Offices too. Remote or hybrid work for this role is not available.

Responsibilities:

The following duties are typical of the position, but are not all-encompassing. Responsibilities include those required to deliver quality service on schedule and within budget in a team environment.

  • Develops, implements, and maintains the safety management system. Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure compliance with safety standards in Mexico government regulations.
  • Monitors and controls the company's safety standards in the workplace in accordance with applicable regulations, such as Mexico NOM, STPS, and state regulations, or government building codes.
  • Leads and motivates staff with respect to safety throughout the organization, ensuring that safety requirements, practices, and procedures are understood and utilized by all staff.
  • Ensures all staff understands the basic safety and health requirements needed to ensure compliance with regulatory safety and health law as well as applicable SSOE best safety management practices.
  • Develops a daily, weekly, and monthly reporting system to executive management and Board personnel regarding injury experience, job incidents, safety training, status of safety objectives, and general safety performance of SSOE as compared to its overall industrial classification.
  • Assists Human Resources to develop a method of scoring and evaluating the safety performance of SBUs in general and also of each Construction Manager's activities.
  • Develops a "Safety Alert" process which communicates important safety and health information throughout the organization such as accidents involving serious injuries and the controls put into place to prevent a reoccurrence, safety reminders, and the creation of a new safety procedure or policy.
  • Inspects office fire safety and safety equipment and building facilities to identify and correct potential hazards and ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Conducts EH&S orientation and other specific EH&S training as needed.
  • Conducts accident investigations, audits, and reports the status and causes of accidents, establishing measures to prevent similar accidents.
  • Works with the Training and Development Department to conduct or coordinate safety and first aid training to educate workers about applicable safety policies, laws, and practices.
  • Maintains programs and record-keeping systems that track and evaluate personnel injuries.
  • Determines requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to travel from our Offices in Leon, Gto, to our Chihuahua Offices as a Corporate Safety Engineer.
Qualifications:

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of related practical experience with another employer.
  • Knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Mexico HSE regulations, NOM 019, NOM 030, STPS, and OSHA (desirable) standards and codes.
  • Certification(s) in EH&S fields of study preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification preferred.
  • Advanced English level is required.
